Are you looking for a game that keeps you up all night, that is so addictive you don't see any sun light for a month, and is simply, an all out blast to play. Well if you are, Diablo is your game. Diablo, made by Blizzard Entertainment is one of those games, destined to be a classic. It has everyting that makes a game fun: great gameplay, sound, graphics, etc.
You start the game off as either a warrior, rouge, or sorcerer. Each character has it's own strength and weaknesses. For example, the warrior is an expert at hand to hand combat but sucks with magic. A rouge is the best with a bow and is fair at hand to hand combat and magic. A sorcerer is a master of magic but is useless at sword play. These make for a good mix and makes you change your strategy for each character. A very cool thing about Diablo is the random level generator which means each time you play the game the levels are always different. This adds a lot of replay value. The graphics and sound are incredible, from the smooth character animations and the great light sourcing to the eerie music and startling sound effects. Try turning off the lights and pumping up the volume and see if you wont jump when a horned demon charges out of the shadows, screaming at the top of its lungs. There are a wide range of monsters, some that shoot things from distances and others that walk up and pound on you. I can easily say, there is nothing more enjoyable than slicing the head of a demon and watching it die in a pool of its own blood, and no, I'm not insane.
You start the game in the towm of Tristram. Here you interact with the towns people and buy and sell items. You must also talk with the towns people to find out information. If your looking for a serious RPG you might be a little disapointed. This is more of a dungeon hack than a RPG. There are only four attributes: Strenght, Magic, Derexity, and Vitality. While beginners may like it, veteran RPGers will probobly want a little more. There are loads of weapons, armor, artifacts, rings, and amulets to choose from. Some of the best things to get are the magical items. They usually increase your attributes and can give you higher hit points. I personally like any life stealing items. With these, each time you kill a monster you get some of there life. Really helpful when you run out of healing potions. Throughout the game you will go on quests. In most of these you have to hunt down a certain monster (kind of like a boss) and kill it. When you complete a quest you usually recieve some sort of magical item. These help you prepare for the final battle with Diablo, and let me tell you now, it aint easy.
Probobly the best reason to buy Diablo is for the multiplayer options. You can play it over modem, network, and a sevice like KALI but where it really shines is on Battle Net. You can play as long as you want for free and with up to 4 players. You can even complete the whole entire game over Battle Net and it sure is a lot easier killing Diablo with a couple of friends to watch your back. You can have team games or games where the players try to kill each other. On Battle Net there are no cheats but a whole bunch of hacks which lots of people use. Let me just tell you now that cheats can be fun but only in single player games! Theres nothing that pisses me off more than losing a character that I worked really hard on because some jerk decided to use town kill. Just had to get that out of my system. You can also join guilds (teams) and meet with them on certain days and go on rampages. All of this makes, by far, the best free multiplayer network so far.
In conclusion, Diablo has everything which makes a game great. Without a doubt, an incredible piece of work. 5 out of 5 demons.
