Thanks to a suggestion from Mr. Brian Tucker, we present Shavertron issues #2, 3 and 7 in their entirety. These are full sized scans, so expect some download time. In the early 1980s when these issues were published, Shavertron was a cut-and-paste 8-1/2 by 11 inch typewriter produced fanzine. We didn't go to digest size until issue 12 (or was it 13?). In any case, scanning these old issues was definitely a walk down memory lane...for one thing, Dottie Shaver was still alive and helping us behind the scenes. We actually had a letter column, amazingly where people sent us snail mail letters! (Oh yeah...1981 was prior to the world wide web). In 1981, Ray Archer was actively researching Shaver's Mantong alphabet across the pond in the U.K. Charles Marcoux was still alive and actively involved in research into cavern entrances, in the hope that he would finally locate Shaver's underworld. We also note that Shavertron had grown from two double-sided pages in 1979, to six double sided pages by 1981...but that was due in part, in #7 at least, to a four page "supplement," from one of our more rabid readers..making this a milestone 16 page ish!! A regular contributor at that time was Jim Wentworth, author of the SM classic, GIANTS IN THE EARTH. Jim often appeared in the pages of RAP publications, and used Shavertron to publish "revisions" to his "Giants" book. S #7 also featured original drawings by R. Finley, when we kinda sorta had a "staff." Yes indeed, those were the days. Hey, even Herb Caen was still writing for the San Francisco Chronicle, a newspaper that contributed plenty of oddball clips for Shavertrons in the years to come. Some current readers have asked about back issues of S...hey, we don't even have a full set of these babies...especially issues in large format like this one. If you are interested in acquiring original back issues, go to the Shavertron archive and click on SHAVERTRON BACK ISSUES. Meanwhile, enjoy.
