The NONAHME CLAN

of the

Northern California Flute Circle

History

The NoNahme Clan began with a few Native American flute enthusiasts who eventually started playing together at the Garden Valley Park on Saturdays after the Mountain Market was over for the day.   The group was joined by various percussionists, a proficient player of the didgeridoo, a multi-talented harpist, and a few guitarists.   The first name of the group was The Wannabees, but as the group became more proficient and was asked to play at various gatherings, the name was changed to The NoNahmes.   Is was incorporated into the Northern California Flute Circle as a clan not long afterward.

General Philosophy

The NoNahmes are interested in fun rather than material gains and play without remuneration at various gatherings such as the Mountain Market in Garden Valley, Founders Day in Georgetown, the Arts in Nature Fest at the Nature Area, and private parties.

On sunny Saturdays beginning 1:00 PM, they can usually be found practicing at the Golden Gecko in Garden Valley.   On the few occasions when the Golden Gecko is not available, they are at the Garden Valley Park.   The public is invited to their practices.

On days of inclement weather, there are practices at various times at members' homes.   Due to limited space, the public is not usually invited to these practices.

Membership

There a few hard-core members who are almost always present at practices and a large number of occasional members.   Most of the clan is proficient at jamming so variation in instruments at practices is not a problem.   New members are welcomed.   The members vary in proficiency from beginners to advanced players - and the members cooperate so that all levels may learn new playing techniques.

There are no dues for being in the NoNahme Clan.   There are dues for being in the Northern California Flute Circle (NCFC) and for being in the International Native Amercian Flute Association (INAFA).   There is no requirement for being in any other organization if you are a member of the NoNahme Clan.   However, there are many benefits for joining the other two organizations mentioned and the dues are reasonable.

Coming Events - Photos of the 2007 Spring Flute Festival and Concert

The Arts in Nature Fest and the Spring Flute Festival were combined for April of 2008.   Both were successful one-day events in April of 2007.   They are now separate one-day events once more.   The Spring Flute Festival has been hosted by the NoNahme Clan each time it was held and will be held again in April of 2009.   The event is now a tradition of the NoNahme Clan and should any similar event in the same geographic area in the spring be held by others, it should not be confused with real thing.

Carol Martin, a professional photographer, has created a CD containing 97 photos (jpgs) taken at the Spring Flute Festival of April 21, 2007, in Georgetown, California, and 37 photos taken at the Concert that night.   The NoNahme Clan is selling copies of this CD.   Half of the money for each sale is going to Carol for her efforts on our behalf - and Carol is donating the other half to the NoNahme Clan to help pay the expenses for the Spring Flute Festival of April, 2009.   The price for each copy of the CD is $10, which includes sales tax and mailing expenses.

When ordering a copy, please be sure to send your name and address with a check or money order made out to Carol Martin.   Lew Price is handling the sales and the copying of the Carol's CD, so please send your order to:

Native American Flute CD and Books

The NoNahme Clan will be playing at practice sessions at the Golden Gecko in Garden Valley on days when the weather is clear with some exceptions.

At these practices and at any future events featuring the NoNahme Clan, the Clan will be selling high-quality small Native American style flutes patterned after the old Elderberry flutes, and CDs (albums) of various popular Native American flutists.   Proceeds of the sales will help to cover the expenses for the 2009 Spring Flute Festival.
