BlueFish - 2001 |
I started this carving while at a woodcarving show as a "just-for-fun" project. I chose this subject because it was simple and I wouldn't need any of the reference photos that I usually use when carving. When I started it, I didn't really know how I was going to finish and/or mount it. Seeing some other carved fish at the show, I decided to give this decidedly non-serious carving a serious presentation. So, I carved the coral out of a piece of scrap wood, and found and stained a basswood base that I had kicking around my shop. The result is more than I envisioned when I started. My wife immediately took possession of it, and it is now on display in our front room. This carving won a First Place ribbon at the Intermediate level at the Great Salt Lake Woodcarvers' 2002 show.
