Grizzly - 1997

This was the first "true-to-life" carving that I attempted, including being the first where I used this texturing technique (which is applied with the edge of a stone bit mounted in my Foredom flexible shaft grinder).  I'm still happy with this even though it was carved when I was very inexperienced and it has a few flaws.

Size: about 5.25 inches high (including base)

Wood: Basswood (bear and rock), Mahogany base

Finish: Mahogany colored Tung Oil Sealer & Stain (bear)

Pattern: from "A Woodcarver's Workbook #2" by Mary Duke Guldan
