Miniature Wood Duck - 2004

I did this carving primarily to get some experience using glass eyes on a carving.  As this was my first time using glass eyes, I set about 6 or 8 eyes into a practice block before I was satisfied with the results.  I used QuikWood epoxy wood filler which I let set up and then carved to shape the eyelids.

This carving won Second Place in Advanced miniature wildfowl at the Idaho Woodcarvers Guild 2004 show, and First Place in Advanced miniature wildfowl at the 2004 Great Salt Lake Woodcarvers show.

Size: 2 inches high

Wood: Basswood

Finish: acrylic paint w/ acrylic sealer

Pattern: from "Carving Miniature Duck Decoys" by Anthony Hillman
