---- as you will be able to tell, I like the author's attitude. the author also does a much better job at explaining his program. therefore, i have reprinted a large portion of his readme.txt file below. it is indeed, a cool program!!! get it and enjoy!!! ---- |
This program is Freeware,
therefore you're Free to try it,
and Free to take it off
your computer if you don't like it.
No guarantees expressed or implied.
I cannot be held responsible for any calamity whatsoever.
----
That said, on to the description of the program. The Yankee Clipper Plus
(YC+) is a Windows95/NT4.0 clipboard memory/stacker that resides in the
system tray. It acts as a silent sentry, continually watching the
clipboard, waiting for a change in the text contents. If a change is
detected, YC+ saves a copy of the clipboard contents in the event you may
want to reuse it. Clicking on the little clipboard in the system tray
brings the Yankee Clipper to the top or makes it visible if it was hidden.
There is a read-only textbox at the top which contains the current
contents of the clipboard. Directly below there is a listbox which
displays past clipboard content. Double-clicking on an item in the
listbox, or selecting with the arrow keys and hitting "Enter" will place
that item back in the clipboard.
----
New stuff - Yankee Clipper Plus : (Stuff that Yankee Clipper didn't have...)
Ability to save "clippings" between sessions. (Or not save, you choose.)
Ability to choose between 20 or 50 items saved in the history.
Boilerplate files. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this term,
it is similar to a template. The boilerplate file capability is perhaps
the least understood by most useful feature of Yankee Clipper Plus.
There is now a Boilerplate file editor included. Just paste entries
into the editor, give the entry a name and save the file. Up to fifty
entries per file. I have boilerplate files for FAQs for my programs,
commonly used code snippets, addresses, etc. To change boilerplate
files just hit configure and choose one from the listbox. If someone
thinks of a better way to explain this, please send me an e-mail.
The ability to run a batch file at program termination. This can be
quite useful if you need it. For example to delete certain temp files
when Windows exits.(Just put it in the same directory and call it YCPEXEC.BAT)
Yankee Clipper Plus and its accessories remember where you put them last.
There is now a calendar included, making it easy to copy dates in
various formats to the clipboard.
You now can combine all entries into one and place that info into the
Clipboard. For culling over your e-mail and saving only that which is
important, to name an example.
You can load any entry into your text editor by right-clicking on
the entry and selecting "load in editor".
----
In my opinion, the best way to use the Yankee Clipper is to make a
shortcut to it in your startup folder. This way it will always be running
and instantly available. You may, of course, start the program manually by
double-clicking on its icon in the Explorer. Either way it's a good idea
to right-click on the icon, select "Properties" and assign a Hot-key
combination. (I use "Ctrl-Alt-Y".) This way you can start or bring to the
top Yankee Clipper with your chosen key combination.
----
The Yankee Clipper can handle large (HUGE) text "clippings". Therefore,
sometimes you may see an error like this "Error displaying clipboard
content". This is because the standard windows textbox can only display up
to 64K- actually less. Don't be concerned- your data is still there,
Windows just can't display it. When you paste back into your word
processor, the text will all be there.
----
Another feature of the Yankee Clipper is its ability to print the
clipboard's text contents, why fire up a huge word processor while you're
running Netscape (Maybe crashing the computer.) to simply print an address
or quote from a web page? The output is nicely word-wrapped and dated. You
say you don't like my Copyright notice on the top of every printout?
Unhide Yankee Clipper, click on the middle button, type in a new caption.
----
Right-clicking on the icon in the system tray brings up a list of
self-explanatory options. Right-clicking on the listbox in the main
program displays a menu with these choices: "Clear history" and "Combine
all entries" and "Configure". These choices should be self-explanatory.
----
You need the VB4 Runtime,MFC,OLE files. If you have VB4-32 you already have them.
If not, check the homepage of Yankee Clipper Plus for where to find them.

*************************************************************** FREEWARE- this software is free, and says "Freeware" prominently. That is to keep you out of trouble with your boss. It's not freeware, it's Make_my_day_ware. What in the world is that? Well Make_my_day_ware is software you can do whatever you want with, with one condition: you have to do something for me. I knew it, you're thinking, right? What does this ugly guy with the beard want? I want you to do something for me- for example: you find a really neat website about ancient Egyptian dogs, tell me about in an e-mail and you're "registered" under the concept of Make_my_day_ware. ( I actually could care less about ancient Egyptian dogs, but I would probably get quite a chuckle out of it.) ---- Another way to "register" your software is to go home and tell your spouse/child/friend/neighbor that you care about them. You don't need to tell me that you did it, that's not the point. The point is to do something to make my day nicer- or someone else's. No fees or registration numbers, you will know if you are registered or not. On a more practical note, you could also register this software by sending me a big bag of money in the denomination of your choice. Hey, it was worth a try... ---- to repeat myself... the above text is from the readme.txt file. ---- now!! get it and enjoy!! a very good program!! |
