Game Summaries:October 10,2000
Numb closes out the season with a dismal performance, with Colin, Coach Eddie and later, Craig Haley wounded and hobbling. Kind of like a shambling Night of the Living Dead movie, only with softball instead of cannibalism. Going against hard hitting, warmed up kids didn't help one bit. Defense and offense lacking, Numb falls 18-8. Offensive leaders where Colin, who unable to run or throw, could hit, 3-3, 2 runs, rbi and JT, 2-2, run, 2 rbis. Numbmaster Silva and Joe da Kid each went 2-3, run, rbi, and run respectively. One hit wonders were Craig, run, Hanna-man, Hammerin' Hank, run and da Quiv, run.
The game was called while we were batting under the dreaded, stinking, malignant 10 run rule. Look, either call the game before we bat or let us finish!! Hot dogs provided by JT and beer were consumed after the game, a fitting end to a very good year. Buoyed by the Uozo, Coach Eddie proclaimed that Numb would play in 2001! Cheers rang out and all is well. Anyone volunteering to manage please contact Coach Eddie in the off season!

Either a sign of fall doldrums, or fear of the Numb machine, yet another opponent forfiets, rather than facing Numb. We had a spirited practice game instead but there was no official last out, so I think Coach Eddie will bring the beer for the last game of the year.

Numb meets longtime rivals Altered Minds and can not generate enough offense or defense to pull out the victory. It was a close game, tied 5-5 till the Minds went up 9-6, then 12-6. Numb managed to score 3 runs, and load the bases with two outs in the final inning, but the dreaded 3 outfielders got to Numb again, as JT drives one to the warning track, but into the glove of the center fielder. If the ball hits the gap, Numb at least ties. Most Numbsters got a hit, but they were scattered. Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark did his best to carry the team, going 3-3, with a home run, double, 3 runs and 2 rbis and Coach Eddie, went 2-3, run, rbi. Numbmaster had 2 weak hits, scoring once. Otherwise the rest were one hit wonders, with Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 2 rbis, JT, rbi, run, Chaba, run, and Hammerin' Henry, run contributing to the scoring.
Even the beer bringing was chaotic and unimpressive, with Henry bringing beer, but no cooler, the Quiv bringing a cooler and beer, but no ice, and JT couldn't find any Uozo and brought some Pernod (some fancy French (ptui!) instead. Since he has to bring the beer next week, JT will no doubt set things right.

Numb plays two and they couldn't be any more different games. Suddenly, the winners of their last 9 games found their offense stone cold and I don't mean that in a can of whoop ass good way. Managing only 7 hits and one run, Numb falls meekly to Jo's Heroes and the dreaded 10 run rule, 11-1. Defense was OK, but even the best Numb defense would not have secured a victory with only one run. Offensive 'stars' were, Stan 'da Man', 1-1. 6 Numbsters went 1-2, as not one had 3 at bats. Only Colin scored and the Numbmaster drove him in. Mark the Quiv made the last out of the game, but due to the doubleheader, didn't have time to buy the beer. Not only that, but Hammerin Henry forgot to bring the beer (first timer, so there was slack cut) leaving Numb refreshless between and after games.
So, Numb loses meekly and has another game against a bunch of hard hitting, fast kids, a team better than the one just played. Would the 11-1 loss be the highlight of the evening? Well, in true Numb fashion, Numb gets gritty and plays well enough to win 9-8. The game was close, tied 3-3, 5-5, and Numb holding on 8-6 during Free for Alls last at bat. They score one, trailing 9-8 with runners on first and second. But a ground ball handled by JT who makes a twisting throw to third for the force and the game ends. Numb manages 13 hits and 9 runs in the nightcap, with Numbsters coming up with key hits left and right. Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley 2-3, 2 runs and Coach Eddie, 2-3, double 2 runs lead the charge. Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, 2-4, 2 runs and Numbmaster Silva, 2-4, run, 2 rbis also contributed. Stan, da man was 1-2, with 2 key rbis. JT, lashed a triple, scored a run and drove in 3, going 1-3 as did Joe the Kid, run, Hanna-man, rbi, and Chaba de Hutt, run. Hanna-man, feeling frisky, actually tried for a double, made a great slide, but was called out by the out of position umpire.
Defense was anchored by the swift youngsters in left and left center, Joe and Colin, who ran down long balls and ran in for dinks. If this game was played at Community, with no fences, the outcome might have been different. JT made the last out of the game, and with Henry, the Quiv and JT all on the line, something needs to be worked out. Uozo? Pizza? Tri-tips? Polish sausages? We will see.

Numb faces the fall without the services of Mike 'the Franchise' Watari as he has taken the fall off (presumably to recooperate, but he is not THAT old!). To fill in, Coach Eddie picks up Henry 'Hammerin Hank' Clayton and Numb rides a 12 run first inning to a 21-11 revenge victory over the Souls. Leading the offensive charge was newly married (if we only knew how it would affect his hitting, we would have made him do it sooner!) JT the pirate, 3-3, triple, double, run, 3 rbis, and Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, 3-4, home run, 3 runs 5 rbis, Timmy, 3-4, home run, triple, 3 runs, 4 rbis and 'Hammerin Hank' 3-4, 2 runs. Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 2-3, 3 runs, 2 rbis and the Numbmaster 2-4, 2 runs, rbi were the only other multi-hitters. One hit wonders were Joe 'the Kid', 2 runs, Coach Eddie, rbi, Stan da man, 2 runs, and Mark the Quiv, 2 runs, rbi.
Numb played just enough poor defense to keep the Souls close until the end. Although the Souls were the home team, they did not bat in the bottom of the last inning due to the STUPID 10 run rule. Even when it works for us, its still lame! Newcomer Hammerin Hank gets an early lesson in Numb tradition as he made the last out of the game and will bring the beer next week. Hopefully, he will continue the emerging tradition of bringing rootbeer for Mr. Rootbeer and others.

Defending D3 champions Numb start fall 1-0 without breaking a sweat, as our as yet unnamed opponents fail to field a team and lose by forfeit. So Numb enjoyed batting practice to gear up for the next game, against someone in the schedule that I don't have handy.
