A hot spring-summer evening, but Numb is not hot, and loses 17-12. Never much a factor, Numb can't quite come up with the ball, or sustain a rally. Leading the offense were Stan da Man, going a manly 4-4, 3 runs, 2 rbis. Alan 'Hoover' Titche, was a manly 2-2, rbi. Coach Eddie was 2-3, double, 2 rbis and Joe da Kid was 2-4, 2 runs. Otherwise, Numb were one hit wonders, Colin, 2 rbis, Numbmaster, run, rbi, Rootbeer Haley, run, JT, rbi, Hannaman, run, Chaba de Hutt, 2 runs, and Mark 'Bro' Harris, run, rbi
Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark once again made the last out of the game, but in a strange coincidence will not be at the next game. No one wants to be in position to break the beer record of JT, 3 times in a row. With the pending Summer loss of Stan, Alan and possibly Scott, Numb faces a recruiting challenge for the summer. Timmy, are you out there??

Strangely twisted bizzare game, as Numb somehow falls to the Souls, who are fast becoming rivals, 20-19. Things looked bad for the intrepid Numbsters, as balls were missed in the infield, outfielders hustled to the ball but failed to catch it and the Souls built a 6-0 lead. Numb fought back to trail 10-9 in their last at-bat. Suddenly, the bats come alive, and Numb goes up 18-10. In their last inning, the Souls actually earn all thier runs with hit after hit, tying the game at 18-18. Numb scores a run, then the Souls score two in the bottom to win.
Leading Numb offensively were, Numbmaster Silva, 4-4, run, 4 rbis, Craig 'Rootbeer' 3-4, 3 runs, 3 rbis, Art da new guy, 3-4, home run, run, 4 rbis, Scotty, 3-4, 3 runs, and JT, 3-4, double, run, 2 rbis. Coach Eddie was 2-3, run, rbi. Joe da Kid and Mr. Clean Kark were 3-5, with 3 runs, 2 rbis, and a double, 3 runs and 2 rbis respectively. One hit wonders were Chaba de Hutt, 2 runs, Alan, run, 2 rbis, and Mark 'Bro' Harris, run. Colin made the last out and will bring the beer and rootbeer. Defense hopes to show up early next game, and play the whole game.

At a game that I missed, being in Vegas and all, Numb becomes offensive and smacks 26 hits, scoring 24 runs and clobbers the Hitmen (well, they were hit!) 24-6. Leading the charge were Coach Eddie, leading by example, 4-5, 3 runs, and a whopping 6 rbis, Mark Harris, 4-5, double, 2 runs, 2 rbis. Chaba de Hutt went 3-4, triple, 3 runs, 5 rbis. Craig 'Rootbeer' Hayley was 4-6, 6 runs, 3 rbis. Other notables were Bill the sub, 3-5, 2 runs, rbi, Alan 'Hoover' Titche, 2-4, run, 3 rbis, Art, 2-4, 2 runs, rbi, Joe da Kid and Stan da Man were each 2-5, with 2 runs, 2 rbis and double, 4 runs, and an rbi respectively.
Joe da Kid must have made the last out, because he brought the beer!

Another chilly spring evening, but different, as Numb busts out the whooping sticks and smacks 22 hits for 18 runs and an 18-10 victory. Falling 6-0 after the top of the first, things looked bad for Numb, but hitting well, we scored 5 to trail only 6-5. After the second, it was 10-9 Heroes. Numb then scores 9 in the bottom of the third, for the final 18-10. Defense finally showed up in the later innings to hold the Heroes scoreless.
Leading hitters were the oldsters, Numbmaster Silva, 3-3, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Hannaman, 3-3, run and Alan 'Hoover' Titche, 3-3, run, rbi. Less than perfect were Stan 'da Man' Robinson, 2-3, 3 runs, rbi, Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 2-3, 3 runs, 2 rbis, Joe Da Kid, 2-3, run, rbi and Chaba de Hutt, still with broken fingers, 2-3, 2 runs, rbi. The other multi hitter was none other than Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, returning from exile with a 2-4, 2 run, rbi night. One hit wonders were JT, double, run, Coach Eddie, run, 2 rbis and Mark Harris, run.
Hannaman actually showed up and brought good beer, Uozo was uncorked (OK, unscrewcapped) and the win was celebrated. Craig Haley made the last out and will bring the rootbeer next week.

A chilly spring evening, Numb vs. Altered Minds. What could be better? Well a stinking victory for one thing! Numb, offensively limp, falls to the Minds 12-7. On a night when Numb discovers defense, they undiscover offense. The Minds whacked the ball with no mercy while the Numbsters ground into double plays and lofted easy fly balls. One unnamed Numbster (OK, JT) actually hit into 2 double plays, but later tripled (with no one on base, though).
Leading hitters were Coach Eddie, 3-3, run, rbi, Chaba de Hutt, 3-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis (maybe broken fingers all around?) adn Stan da Man, 3-3, 2 runs and a whopping 4 rbis. Two for three-ers were Alan and Numbmaster. One hitters were JT, run, Mark Harris, 3 runs (hes fast!) and Hannaman, beerman. The painful lessons of spring continue...

"10 to 11, losing in the bottom of the sixth, Numb is trying to rush the
home team to the bat to beat the time limit with three minutes remaining...."
And so it goes. Not that we were doing that well at that point. I think
the final was 10-14. It would have been picture perfect if it had started
snowing. ...And it felt like it could have...kinda.
With only nine players (again) we were down by one, visitors, and not much
happening at the bats by that point. Steve Hannaman had a 3-4 performance
(3-1B) as did JT ( a "generous" 3-4 performance, 3- 1B), followed by New
Guy Scott (2-3, BB 2-1B), and (!!!?!!) Mark the Quive (2-4, 2-1B). Then it
was a fleet of one-hit wonders. New Mark (BB) Rootbeer Haley (BB) Chaba,
Coach Eddy, and Alan all ponked for one. We needed to hold them, get up and
score a bunch, and then protect a lead.
And it was cold.
Unfortunately, in our hurry, they just got some more runs faster. ...And
then the umps called the game on time.
Stan and Mikey missed out on a bisk evening where Numb couldn't get moving
up to speed with the most noted exceptions of the "new guys". Numb dropped
an bunch of moderate to difficult fly and pop balls that would have helped
their cause. But with great catches punctuated by the returning Chaba (three
in right field), the outfield moved "like the wind" in covering great masses
of land. New guys Scott and Mark covered ground like rockets. The term
"Speedy" came to mind. New guy Scott even dashed around from first base to
third, safe, only to be a victim of the poor umpiring in our league that
continues to slide downward. Case in point: The umpires didn't know the
firstbasemen's gloves are not allowed on the field, except at firstbase.
Rootbeer, our resident umping authority and an umpire himself, was appalled
at the lack of skill and knowledge. Anyway, New guy Scott was dead meat.
Not because he was tagged out, but rather the inability of the home plate
ump to get even remotely near third base to make the call. "He 'looked'
out". It will be on his epitaph. Anyway, New guy Scott got a lesson about
our league. We hope he will continue to play for us.
On the bright side, Steve Hannaman was whacking the ball when we needed him
to. And the Quive remembered to bring beer. And we we close for most of the
game. All nine of us. Did I mention we had beer?
Next week. Yes, next week.

Numb, Numb, Numb. The very name invokes visions of grandeur and of complete ineptitude. On opening night, 2001, the 22nd year of Numb, we lived up to both. Starting out with a porous defense and an inept offense, Numb fell behind 6-0. But, through sheer determination, some careful atbats and some defense, the Numbsters rallied to tie the game 11-11, and, after a Souls rally, again at 14-14. In the extra frame, though, the Souls again took advantage of all their poo-poo-girly-man hits and put the game away.
Leading hitters (with NO practice, mind you) were Stan 'da Man' Robinson (yes, he and Alan are back!) 3-4, triple, 3 runs, 3 rbis, Joe 'da Kid' Harris, 2 runs, and Mark 'Joes Brother' Harris, 2-3, 3 runs, rbi. Numbmaster and Hannaman each went 3-5, with 3 rbis and a run respectively. Coach Eddie and Da Quiv Hirzy each went 2-4, with Hirzy scoring a run and 3 rbis, and Eddie scoring twice and adding one rbi. Craig 'Rootbeer' Hunter went 1-4, 2 runs, rbi. In all Numb notched 18 hits, and walked at least a half dozen times. But, early season base running gaffes and seemingly insane coaching killed a few rallies. Da Quiv made the last out of the game and will pay the usual penalty. One game wiser, Numb hopes to make a better showing next week.
