Game Summaries:

October 17, 2002
The Numbsters win the pennant! The Numbsters win the pennant!! Numb withstands the hitting of Mad Skillz (formerly No Skillz, I guess they got some!) turns two double plays, and hits to win 13-10. Plus, Numb got an added bonus with the return of Joe the Kid!! finally recoved from his broken ankle. Joe played like he was around all season, running fast, hitting well.
Leading hitters were Brad Haley the Younger, 3-3, run, Numbmaster, 3-3, double, 2 runs, rbi, Jeff 'Mr.' Williams, 3-3, rbi and Joe Da Kid, 2-2, run, rbi. Other notables were Art the guy from work, 2-3, triple, 2 runs, 2 rbis, and Dale 'Mr. Millie', 2-3, run, rbi. One hit wonders were Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, run, JT, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, run, 3 rbis, Hannaman, run, and Coach Eddie. In a somewhat fitting gesture, Coach Eddie made the last out of the season, this Numb's 23nd. Seems like just yesterday it was the 20th year!

October 10, 2002
I don't know quite how to describe this game. Numb wins, but plays pretty messy defense and pretty inconsistent offense and relies on errors by the youngsters known as Whatever. The winning run scored in the bottom of the last inning, with the bases loaded, on a lineout to second base as Rootbeer Haley took advantage of something, and scored before the second baseman realized he was running! That play, with others kind of added a surreal 'Twilight Zone' feel to the game. Besides, the first 5 Numb batters collected 13 of our 14 hits, and we still managed to score 14 runs.
Leading hitters were the Numbmaster, 4-4, 2 runs, 4 rbis, Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 3-4, 3 runs, Brad Haley the Younger, 2-3, JT da Pirate, 2-4, triple, 2 runs, and Colin, 2-4, home run, run, 2 rbis. Hannaman had the lone hit for the bottom dwellers and scored a run. In a typical Numb-like twist, Jeff Williams made the last out of the game which scored the winning run! With the win, Numb can win 20 games for the first time... well EVER!! Quite a contrast from the 7 wins last year. To Connie!!!

October 3, 2002
After 2 weeks, the Numbmaster returns, JT beats the flu and Numb beats up on the Souls 11-1. Leading the offense were Jeff Williams, 3-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Hannaman, 2-2, run, rbi, and Coach Eddie, 2-3, run, 2 rbis. Two fer fours included Brad Haley the Younger, run, rbi, Numbmaster, run, 3 rbis, and Art, run, One hit wonders were JT, triple, run, Chaba de Hutt, rbi, Dale, run, rbi, and Rootbeer Haley, run. Chaba made the last out of the game again, and will bring the beer.

Two fer fours were Colin Kark, run, 2 rbis, and Mr. Williams, run, rbi. One hit wonders were Bradley, 3 runs, JT, 2 runs, Hannaman, Chaba de Hutt, and Coach Eddie, 2 runs. Without the Webmaster and with the addition of Art-from-Work and the Secrect Senator, temporarily out of retirement, Numb starts slowly, then lashes back at Cary Construction to win 18-10. Avenging a previous loss 20-1 ("yikes") Numb combined for 21 hits, lead by a slump-breaking performance by Coach Eddy, 4-4 3 RBI, to put a stocky, young group of ball players behind them in their fight for the championship ("Championship?"). Following Eddy were Art-from-work 2-2 HR, 4 RBI, Bradly the Younger (HR), JT (3rd) and Dale "Mr Millie" (3rd) at 3-4. Hannaman split 2-4, followed by a slew of one-hit wonders including Greg Chaba-de-hut, Craig Rootbeer Haley, Colin "Hey-who's-the girl?" Clean, and the Secret Senator. Cursed by a comment by Colin before he went to bat, JT popped out for the last out and will bring the beer.

With JT, Hannaman and Chaba de Hutt missing, Coach Eddie reaches deep into the Numb archives and pulls out the Secret Senator, who last played in 1999. Serving as the emergency starter, Mr. Sandino cuffs the Lunkers, striking out 3, and leads Numb to a 6-1 victory. Offense was pretty crappy, really, only scoring 6 runs. Leading the 'charge' were Jeff Williams, 2-3, run, rbi, Art the Sub, 2-3, run, rbi and Rootbeer Haley, 2-4, 2 runs. One hit wonders were Brad the Younger, run, Numbmaster, triple, run, rbi, Colin, 2 rbis, Secret Senator, and Dale, rbi. Colin made the last out of the game and promply announced he would not be here next week. He will, but I won't.

September 5, 2002
In stark contrast to last week, Numb comes out flat, doesn't hit and falls meekly to the Goats, who only had 8 players, 11-7. The key, no hitting. Numb tallies 12 hits, one more than the number of runs scored in one inning in last week's game! Last week, one 0-fer, this week, two 0-fers and 4 1-fers. Leading hitters were Brad, 2-3, 3 runs, Craig, 2-3, double, run, and the Numbmaster, 2-3, rbi. The only other 2 hitter was JT, 2-4, home run, run, 3 rbis. One hit wonders were Colin, run, 2 rbis, Hannaman, Chaba de Hutt, and Dale, solo home run. The top 5 hitters were a decent 9-17, but the bottom 5 were a stinky 3-16. Ouch. Eric the Mailman made the last out of the game and in an amazing coincidence, will not be here next week! Numb seeks to regroup.
