Game Summaries:

June 6, 2002
June Swoon?? How else do you explain the absence of offense? Numb gets 11 hits, but only pushes across 4 runs and falls to the hard hitting Altered Minds, 13-4. Defense was good, but the Minds just hit the ball well.
Leading the Numb 'charge' were Numbmaster, 1-1, run, 2 walks, Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 2-3, and Hannaman, 2-3, rbi. One hit wonders were numerous, Joe da Kid, Brad Haley the Younger, run, Colin, 2 rbis, Scotty, run, Chaba de Hutt, and Dale, run. Thats about it. Alan 'Hoover' Titche made the last out of the game and magnanimously paid Chaba for the Summer season first game refreshments, even though he and Scotty will be traitorously leaving Numb for the Flatliners. The good news is, they will be in D3 so we can taunt them mercilessly! Numbs 7-2 fall was a great start to the year, one of the best ever.

Numb vs. the kids. A bunch of frat rats called Big Stones. Numb scores 3 in the first inning, puts the clamps on the Stones offense, and finally scores some runs in the last inning to win 12-4.
Defense was there when needed in a tense inning where the Stones loaded the bases with no outs. A gounder to JT, a force at the plate, a lousy throw by the catcher (me) allowed a run, and left runners at first and third with one out, and Numb clinging to a 6-4 lead. Next batter grounds to Coach Eddie, who fires home to get the runner. Next batter makes the last out and Numb survives. Hitting was spotty early, the last 5 batters each with only one hit, but all in the last inning when Numb scored 6 to seal the game. Leading the charge were Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 3-3, run, 3 rbis, Numbmaster, 2-2, double, 2 rbis, Joe da Kid, 2-4, 3 runs, and Beam me up Scott, 2-4, run. One hit wonders were JT, triple, run, 2 rbis, Hannaman, Coach Eddie, run, Chaba de Hutt, run, Alan 'Hoover' Titche, run, rbi and Dale 'Mr. Millie', run, rbi. Once again, in karmic retribution, Scott made the last out of the game and will pay the price. With a record spring, Numb faces the grim fact of moving up a league in summer, never mind that we will be loosing Alan and Scott to the Flatliners...

May 23, 2002
After a week layoff and without JT, Numb rides a 9 run first inning, highlighted by walks to the first 6 batters, to a 19-1 pasting of the Putah Creek Lunkers. For the game, Numb recorded 15 hits (most seem to come during the beer frame!) and 9 walks.
Defense was crisp and nearly flawless as Hannaman mowed down the opposition. Leading hitters were Joe da Kid, 2-3, double, 2 runs, rbi, Hannaman (doing it all), 2-3, double!, run, Coach Eddie, 2-3, run, 2 rbis, and Beam me up Scott, 2-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis. Due to walks, the following were all 1-2 (except as noted), Brad, run, 3 rbis, Rootbeer, 2 runs, rbi, Colin, 1-3, 2 runs, rbi, Mr. Williams, triple!!, 2 runs, rbi, Numbmaster, run, 3 rbis, Alan, 2 runs, rbi and Dale, 1-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis. Scott made the last out of the game, after about half a dozen Numbsters batted and got on base with 2 outs, and will bring the refreshments next week.

Windy, kind of chilly for May. The weather must have slowed down the usually hard hitting Cary Johnson Construction, that, some good Numb defense, poor opponent defense and a call that goes Numb's way results in an 11-3 victory over a very good team.
Three pivotal plays during the game helped keep Cary's boys from doing major damage. First, a well turned double play by Mr. Williams, then, with the bases loaded an no outs, a fly out and the runner at third called out for leaving early (he was very fast and in all honesty probably did not leave early) and finally, a laser throw by Haley the Younger to nail a runner at the plate. On the other side, the Numb book recorded 6 errors by the opponents wich helped Numb score on a day when the offense was not as stellar as it has been.
Leading the way offensively were Brad Haley, 3-4, double, run, Hannaman, 2-3, rbi, Alan Titche, 2-3, and the ever opportunistic JT, 2-4, triple, 3 runs, 3 rbis. One hit wonders were Joe da Kid, run, Rootbeer Haley, 2 runs, Colin, 2 runs, Numbmaster, run, Mr. Jeff Williams, 2 rbis, and Dale, run. Anyway, JT again made the last out of the game and will bring the refresments in two weeks, as Numb has a bye next week.

May 2, 2002
On a cold and windy, clear spring day, Numb hides behind superior pitching to put a win in the books 11-5.
Lacking the leadership of Numb legends Mike "Big dog" Silva and Steve HanAHHHHman, as well as the youth of Jason "the Slasher", Numb still managed to take home a chilly and blowing win. Living up to their own name, due to missing their regular pitcher due to work commitments, No Skilz walked Numb to an early lead, posting 6 walks throughout the game, and Numb managed to hang on. Due to the cold and delta breezy evening, Numb's hit production was down from previous weeks, with Numb going 12 for 32.
Scoring came in the 1st (2), 3rd (3) and 5th (6) innings ("How very odd", I hear you say...). No Skilz made a rally attempt late in the 4th inning, but was squashed through a combination of popped up balls and a killer throw by Colin "Mr. Clean" Kark from right center to home, handled by Chaba-da-Hutt, who made the "Dead Meat" tag at the plate (note: this was in the aftermath of a truly bizarre throw Mr. Clean had made towards first base, resulting in something just short of a Keystone cop flick...)... Also, speed on the bases by Joe Da-Kid, Beam me up Scotty, and Bradley-the-Younger helped Numb keep Skilz from finding their center.
Batting was lead by Greg Chaba-da-hutt, 2 for 3, then Bradley-the-Younger, 2-4, 3b, RBI, followed by Alan "Hoover" Titche, Craig "Rootbeer" Haley, RBI and "Beam-me-up" Scott, at 1-2, JT, 2 RBI, Coach Eddy, and Dale "Mr. Millie" at 1-3, RBI. Colin wasn't dead last (1-4, 2 RBI) as Jeff "JWill" Williams went 0-4. And because no good deed goes unpunished, JT undercut his last at swing at bat, resulting in a pop-out, requiring he bring the beer to the next game.
Update by JT, as if you couldn't tell!

Tonight, Jo is sad. Her Heroes fall to a supercharged Numb offense 20-8. Down 4-0 after the top of the first, Numb scores 9 in the bottom of the inning for a lead it never lost. Every one of the 12 Numbsters each got at least one hit and went an amazing 28 for 40 as a team.
Sparking the attack were Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, 4-4, home run, triple, 2 runs, 4 rbis, Numbmaster, 3-3, triple, run, 2 rbis, Coach Eddie, 3-3, 2 runs, rbi, JT, 3-4, triple, 3 runs, Rootbeer Haley, 2-3, 3 runs, rbi, Jeff 'Mr.' Williams, 2-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Hannaman, 2-3, 2 runs, rbi, Chaba de Hutt, 2-3, run, rbi and Alan 'Hoover' Titche, 2-3, run 2 rbis. Joe da Kid and Haley the Younger each went 2-4, with a double, 2 runs, and 2 runs, rbi respectively. The only one hit wonder was Dale 'Mr. Millie', 1-3, rbi.
With all that offense, defense was good enough to defend against the suprisingly feeble Heroes' offense. Dale made the last out of the game and will bring something non beerlike to the game next week. Hopefully, this unprecedented burst of Spring offense will continue!

April 18, 2002
Numb finally gets untracked and rides a 7 run first inning to spank the Souls 15-4. Defense was good, offense was spotty, but good enough. With 14 Numbsters hitting and crowding the dugout, it seemed chaotic at times, but a good game overall.
Sparking the 21 hit attack were Joe da Kid, back in the leadoff position, 3-3, 3 runs, 2 rbis, Brad the Younger, 3-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Rootbeer Haley, 2-3, run, 2 rbis, Numbmaster, 2-3, run 2 rbis, JT, 2-3, run, 2 rbis, and Jeff 'Mr.' Williams, 2-3, run. One hit wonders include Colin, run, rbi, Alan 'Hoover' Titche, Coach Eddie, run, Chaba de Hutt, double, 3 rbis, and the Ancient One (Hannaman), run. Like last week, only one Numbster failed to get a hit. All I'll say is that it wasn't me! Did I mention that I, your humble Numbmaster, set the lineup that produced the season high runs? Well its true, its true! In an interesting statistical note, Numb as a team went 21-39, a .538 average!
Hannaman made the last out of the game and will bring some good stuff to the game next week.

Numb vs. Altered Minds. Spring softball in Davis. It just doesn't get any better than this! Plus, the fact that Numb hits and wins, makes it all sweeter. Defense started kind of shaky, but came through with a sweet double play by Rootbeer Haley, a diving catch by Haley the Younger and a rundown of a DEEP fly ball by Mr. Clean Kark. Offensively, Numb pounds out 21 hits with only one Numb slacker going 0-fer (thank you very much).
Leading the offense were Brad Haley, 4-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Joe da Kid, 3-3, 2 runs, rbi, Colin Kark, 2-2, run, 2 rbis, JT, 2-2, rbi, Rootbeer Haley, 2-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Chaba De Hutt, 2-3, 2 runs, and 'beam me up' Scott, 2-3, 2 runs. One hit wonders were Jeff Williams, rbi, Alan, Coach Eddie, and Dale 'Mr. Millie'.
Proof that even the slightest slip will be punished, Rootbeer Haley made the last out of the game for his only out of the game. Rootbeer will be served next week.

April 4, 2002
Spring is here! The weather? A little chilly. The mood? Quitely excited. Numb starts the spring with the return of Alan 'Hoover' Titche, Brad 'Haley the Younger', fresh off the injured list and Jason 'the Slasher' who I think is Mr. Jeff Willam's friend, but my mind is going so I don't quite remember, but I will check it out.
Anyway, to the game. Numb managed to scrape up 13 somewhat healthy bodies for the opener and it was Numb all the way. Flashes of good play coupled with sheer ineptitude marked this, like so many other, openers. A complete inability to catch the ball plus some nasty baserunning sealed our fate. On the plus side, a couple of double plays and a nearly effective rally gave us hope for future games. Numb falls, 10-8 to the Davis Hitmen. On the offensive side, this being the first game and all, 5 Numbsters went 0-fer, an eclectic mix of young and old. Leading hitters were Rootbeer Haley, 2-2, run, Hannaman, 2-3, 2 runs and Jeff Williams, 2-3, triple, run, rbi. One hit wonders were Colin, solo home run, Numbmaster, run, rbi, JT, double, 3 rbis, Dale, run and Jason, double, run. Joe da Kid made the last out of the game and will bring the beer next week as we meet Altered Minds! To Connie!!!
