Game Summaries:

August 29, 2002
Numb's grudge match with the Flatliners, who beat us 15-8 earlier in the season. Numb responds by cranking out 25 hits, scoring 11 runs in the second inning and holding on for a 16-11 victory. The difference? Hitting! Leading the charge were the oldsters, Hannaman, 4-4, 2 runs, rbi, Numbmaster Silva, 3-3, double, 2 runs, 3 rbis. Near perfect were Jeff Williams, 3-4, triple, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Greg Chaba de Hutt, 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Dale 'Mr. Millie', 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis. Going 2-4 were Brad Haley the Younger, run, 2 rbis, Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, run, JT, 2 runs, rbi, and Eric the Mailman, run. Coach Eddie was the lone one hit wonder, with a run and 2 rbis. Although the first 4 hitters were a disappointing 6-16, the next 6 were a sizzling 17-23.
Numb's 7-2 record tied the Flatliners, but heck, it was the position game and we won, so we win the league!! Coach Eddie made the last out of the game, saving Brad, who was up next and could have set the record with 4 in a row! Fall starts next week, so no break. Illustrating the volatility of Numb, we won 7 games by an average of 8.5 runs per game, and lost 2 by an average of 11 runs per game! Crush or be crushed! Numb's record of 14-4 so far makes it one of the best years in recent history. Way to go!!

JT had an accident. Bumped from behind by a coed, he sits out with whiplash. Numb gets the Millinator to fill in. Facing only 8 players, Numb wins 19-9 in a game that was closer than the score. Cruising to an early 8-2 lead, Numb fumbles and leads only 10-8 going into the last inning. The bats come alive, and lead by Brad the Younger's grand slam, Numb scores 9 runs to close out Give it a Try, who did. Leading the offense were Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 4-4, 3 runs, rbi, Numbmaster Silva, 4-5, 1 run, 3 rbis, Chaba de Hutt, 2-3, 2 runs, rbi, and Bradley, 4-6, grand slam, 4 runs, 4 rbis. Other notables were Hannaman, 2-4, 2 runs, rbi, Dale 'Mr. Millie', 2-4, run, rbi, Millie, 2-5, run, Coach Eddie, 2-5, 2 runs, 2 rbis, and one hit wonders Colin, double, 3 runs, rbi and Eric 'the Mailman' rbi.
Numb's now 6-2 record puts us in a fight for first place, depending on the schedule for next week. In a Numb record, young Bradley made the last out of the game, tying the record for 3 times in a row.

Numb and the Souls. A classic matchup of old timers. The Numb elders come through to lead Numb to a 8-5 victory. Not much offense, good defense and a win. With the absence of Colin, JT, 3-4, triple, 3 runs, rbi, Numbmaster, 3-4, run, 3 rbis and Hanaman, 2-3, 2 rbis picked up the slack. Dale and Coach Eddie were each 2-4, with a run each and the one hit wonders were the Haleys, Brad and Craig, and Mr. Jeff Williams. The defense was anchored by Jeff and Dale.
In a bizzare twist at the end of the game, with two outs, Coach Eddie hit a drive to left which fell to the ground while the left fielder was watching a play on the other field and did not see the ball at all! Then the next batter Brad the Younger made the last out of the game, while helpful Numbsters continually reminded him. Next weeks game is at Playfilds, not Community as originally scheduled

A week layoff seems to revitalize Numb, as we return to hitting and fielding and trounce Jo's Heroes 17-4. The first 4 Numbsters go a collective 10 for 14 to spark the offense. Leading the charge were Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, 3-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Jeff Williams, 3-3, triple, run, rbi, Brad Haley the Younger (and forgetful it seems, since he swore he didn't make the last out last game) 3-4, 3 runs, JT, 2-3, triple, 2 runs, 4 rbis, Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 2-4, 2 runs, and Hannaman, 2-4, run. One hit wonders were Numbmaster, double, run, 2 rbis, Coach Eddie, run, rbi, Chaba de Hutt, and Dale 'Mr. Millie' Roweberry, run.
Coach Eddie made the last out of the game. After the game, Brad made a quick run to the store to bring the refreshments, but failed to return within the alloted time and will have to wear the Numb penalty shirt next week.

JT is back, Numbmaster is back, but Coach Eddie is gone, so what does Numb do? Plays unearthly crappy defense, hits in one inning, and falls to the Flatliners (who are anchored by part time Numbsters Alan and Stan) 15-8. Down 10-0, Numb socres 7 in the 4th to make it a game, then trails 10-8 when another bad inning defensively leaves us behind 15-8. The last out is recorded, and the game is called. What the????
Like last week, Numb only manages 10 hits, but in one inning of patience combines these hits with walks to score more runs. Leading the 'charge' were Jeff 'Mr. Williams' 2-3, 2 runs, rbi, Chaba de Hutt, 2-3, triple, run, 3 rbis, and Dale 'Mr. Millie', 2-3, double, triple, run, rbi. One hit wonders were, Brad, Craig, Colin, JT, run, and Hannaman, run, 2 rbis. Brad Haley made the last out of the game and will bring the beer in two weeks. Numbs lack of hitting is getting serious, as the normally productive top 5 have produced a mere 5 hits last week and 4 hits this week.

No JT, no Numbmaster. So what does Numb do? They fall to Cary Johnson Construction 17-2, feebly scoring 2 runs in the last inning, while their opponents pound the ball. Leading hitters were Eric 'the Mailman' (he really is a mailman!) Iverson, 3-3, Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 2-4, run, Brad Haley the Younger, 1-3, run, Art, 1-3, Chaba de Hutt, 1-3 and Colin, 1-4, triple, 2 rbis.
Greg Chaba brought the beer, so I assume he was the last out of the game.

Numb is really short players, so Ed brings in a guy from work and somehow gets the venerable Eric Iverson to return from retirement. Result? Numb avenges two losses to Altered Minds on the 4th of July to romp 16-8. Keyed by 4 Minds errors in the first, Numb scores 6 and adds key long balls late in the game to keep the Minds at bay.
All 10 Numbsters hit, with the majority going 2-4. Leading the charge were Colin, 3-4, triple, 3 runs, 2 rbis, and Art (super sub), 3-4, triple, 3 runs, 2 rbis. The 7 2-4 folks were Brad, triple, 2 runs, rbi, Jeff Williams, 2 runs, Numbmaster, run, Hannaman, run, Eric, 2 runs, Chaba de Hutt, triple, 2 rbis, and JT, who would like to remind everyone that he was injured (like the rest of us aren't!) run, rbi. Coach Eddie went 1-4, with a run. The injured JT made the last out of the game and will bring the beer next week.

Numb is short players, so recruits the Millinator to fill in. The result? Numb hits, defends and creams the Wild Turkeys (whats with all these frat names; Wild Turkeys, Whatever, Give it a Try, shesh whatever happened to imagination? But I digress) 14-3. Jeff Williams and Brad the Younger made outstanding defensive plays to keep the Turkeys from gobbling the lead (sorry) and the suddenly potent Numb offense scores 5 in the first and 6 in the second.
The Numb attack was paced by the usual suspects, Colin, 4-4, 2 doubles, 3 runs, 2 rbis, JT, 3-3, run, 4 rbis, Brad Haley, 4-5, double, 3 runs, Coach Eddie, 2-3, rbi, Craig Haley, double, 3 runs, 2 rbis, and Numbmaster, 2-4, double, 2 runs, rbi. One hit wonders were Hannaman, run, rbi, and Dale, run. The first 5 Numbsters were 16-21, not too shabby. Craig made the last out of the game and will bring the rootbeer in two weeks, as Numb goes for the gold on the 4th of July. To Connie!!

June 20, 2002
Joe da Kid out for the season with a broken ankle! How would Numb respond? Even Joeless, Numb starts the summer big time, beating some kids 17-7. Numb starts with a stunning 11 run first inning, totally amazing the kids who must have been thinking 'How can these old farts hit??'
The Numb attack was paced by Craig 'Rootbeer' Haley, 4-4, 2 doubles, 4 runs, 2 rbis, Numbmaster Silva, 3-3, double, run, 3 rbis, Brad Haley the Younger, 3-4, 3 runs, rbi and Colin 'Mr. Clean' Kark, 3-4, 3 runs, 4 rbis. Going 2-4 were Dale 'Mr. Millie' 2 runs, rbi, and JT, 2 runs, 2 rbis. One hit wonders were Jeff Williams (although he was 1-1!), 2 rbis, Hannaman, and Coach Eddie, run, rbi. JT made the last out of the game, and will bring the beer.
