Game Summaries:

June 17th, 2003
Numb bats come mostly alive and turn 13 hits into 17 runs to blowout the Lunkers, 17-8. Forging a 11-1 lead, Numb weathers a Lunker's rally and keeps scoring to put them away. Although the number of hits was not great, 'critical hitting percentage' was exceptional as Numb knocked 2 home runs, 2 triples and 3 doubles in the win. Leading the charge were Rootbeer Haley, 3-3, triple, 2 runs, JT, 3-3, double, 2 runs, rbi and Chaba de Hutt, 2-4, triple, run, 2 rbis. The rest were one hit wonders, Bradley the Younger, home run, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Alan, double, 2 runs, rbi, Numbmaster, 3 rusn, 3 rbis, Colin, home run, run, 3 rbis, Art, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Dale, double, run, rbi, and Dave, 2 runs.
Once again Newest guy Dave made the last out of the game, going 3-4 in that category. Hopefully, the surge (the batting surge, not Dave's bring the beer surge!) will continue into the upcoming summer season, as Numb looks to return to winning!

June 12th, 2003
A week layoff had Numb ready to play. A 6 run first inning had the looks of a blowout, but Numb manages to score only 2 more runs and falls late, 9-8 to the exchange students. Watching a 6-0 lead dwindle to a 8-6 lead in the last inning, we can't stop the Students from scoring 3 in the bottom of the 7th to win. Hitting was OK, but 7 out of the 11 went 0fer or 1fer. Turns out that our offense and defense is not good enough to hold a lead anymore. Leading hitters were Rootbeer Haley, getting the hang of the new bat, 3-4, run, JT, 3-4 double, 2 runs, rbi, Jeff 'Old Man' Williams, 2-3, run, 2 rbis and Dale, 2-3, triple, 2 rbis. One hit wonders were Bradley the Younger, run, Numbmaster, run, rbi, Art, double, run, rbi, and Hannaman. So in 8 games, we have lost as many as in 25 games last year.
JT made the last out of the game (his only out of the game) thus saving the next batter, Dave from the chance of a three peat.

Numb once again defies convention and combines abysmal defense, timely hitting, 'what the...?' baserunning, with good plays and limp bats to fool themselves into thinking we can win, and fall, 15-12 to the Putah Creek Lunkers, who we beat last year, 19-1 and 6-1. Even with committing at least 8 errors, and 3 base running gaffes, Numb lead 12-9 going into the last inning. Once again, errors and hits erased the lead, and we went out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning. To summarize, we can't hit, field, or run the bases with any consistency, and doing any one of these would have given us the win. Hopefully, a bye will help... Oh, we have a chance, actually 2, to lose as many or more games in the spring than we did ALL YEAR last year. Yeah, its like that... But, in Numb, like life, hope springs eternal and a turnaround could happen at any time... or not.
Leading hitters were Numbmaster, 3-4, 2 runs, rbi, Coach Eddie, 2-3, run, rbi and Young Brad, 2-4, triple, run. The rest were one hit wonders and 0fers. One hitters were Stan da Man, run, rbi, Alan, Art, run, Colin, run, rbi, Chaba de Hutt, run, 2 rbis, and Dale, triple, run, 2 rbis. Newest Guy Dave once again made the last out of the game, and will go for the tie next game.

Perhaps it was the hot weather. Maybe it was the return of the ultimate Numbster, Coach Eddie, or the addition of yet another new guy named Dave (who at 24 is young, fast, and hardwareless). Whatever the reason, Numb bats come alive and the defense shines as Numb cruelly beats Cary Johnson 15-8. Numb fell behind early 2-1, but built an incredible 15-2 lead and coasted to the win. The defense also came alive, featuring solid infield play by Newest Guy Dave and diving catches by Bradley and Colin.
Leading hitters were youngster Brad Haley, 2-2, 2 runs, 2 rbis, oldtimers Hannaman, 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Coach Eddie, 3-4, 2 runs, rbi, Alan 'Hoover' Titche, run, 2 rbis, and JT, 2-3, double, run. Going 2-4 were, Stan 'da Man' Robinson, run, Numbmaster, 3 rbis, Jeff 'Birthday Boy' Williams, run, and the Newest Guy Dave, 2 runs, rbi. The only one hit wonder was Dale, double, run, rbi. In all Numb notched 21 hits. Newest Guy Dave, keeping with 20 plus years of Numb tradition, made the last out of the game and will pay the price...

Late game, and Numb plays like we are asleep and meekly fall to Altered Minds, 17-7. An early struggle, with Numb ahead 7-4, coming back from 4-1 down, turned into a Minds laugher, as they pound the ball and score 13 runs in the last two innings. In the same stretch, Numb goes 3 and out twice. The defense was a non-factor. Although less than perfect, it really didn't matter.
Leading the 'charge' were Rootbeer Haley, 3-4, run, 3 rbis, Numbmaster, 2-3, rbi, and the other Haley, Brad, 2-4, 2 runs, rbi. One hit wonders were Alan, run, Stan Robinson, run, rbi, Colin, Jeff, and Chaba de Hutt, run. 5 one hit wonders and 3 0fers sealed Numb's fate. In typical Numb fashion, Craig Haley, who was 3-3, made the last out of the game, for the second game in a row. Great rootbeer!

May 1st, 2003
Warmer weather and a new bat seemed to put Numb in the doldrums so we lose 13-9 to the former No Skillz, now Mad Skillz. No hitting and no defense were the keys for Numb. If not for errors and walks, it wouldn't have been close..
Once again Dale 'Mr. Millie' Roweberry lead the so called hitters, 3-4, run, rbi, with Alan, 2-3, run, Craig Haley, 2-4, run, and JT, 2-4, run the only other multiple hitters. One hit wonders were Brad Haley, run, 2 rbis, Numbmaster, Colin, run, and Stan Robinson, run, rbi. Thats about it. Rootbeer Haley made the last out of the game and will bring the rootbeer next week.

Just what the doctor ordered, the Souls and some defense! With Colin patrolling the outfield and Jeff Williams and Alan Titche taking care of the infield, the Numb bats finally come to life and we 10 run the Souls 20-10. Note that this was after a 14-2 Numb yawner became a 14-10 'hey lets wake up here!'.
Leading the hit parade were Numbmaster, 3-3, 3 runs, Dale 'Mr. Millie', 4-4, 3 runs, 2 rbis, and Joe the Kid, 3-3, 3 runs. All told, the bottom 3 went 10 for 11! Other notables were Brad the Younger, 2-4, rbi, Alan, 2-3, 2 runs, rbi, JT, 3-4, run, 2 rbis, Mr. Williams, 2-4, 2 runs, Big Art, 2-4, triple, run, 3 rbis, and Hannaman, 3-4, run. One hit wonders were Rootbeer Haley, and Coach Eddie, triple, 2 runs. Because I didn't write it down, I don't remember who made the last out of the game, but I have learned it was Colin.

April 10th, 2003
Another chilly evening and a chilly game for Numb. Missing Timmy (gone for the year) Craig and Alan, Numb goes hot and cold and eventually falls to the Goats 11-10. Numb just cannot come up with the timely hit or the defensive play to stop the Goats. Down 8-3 in the 6th, Numb scratches to tie 8-8. The Goats then score in the bottom of the 6th, but with 8 seconds left, the last out flies to left center. Under the new rules, as long as time remians, a new inning will start. So, given new life, Numb scores twice in the top of the seventh to lead 10-9. But the Goats rally and score the winning run on a very close play at home with two outs.
Numb offense was nothing to write home about, but with 13 hits and 10 walks, there should have been more than 10 runs. Leading the 'charge' were Chaba de Hutt, 2-2, 2 rbis, and Stan the Man Robinson, 3-4, run, 2 rbis. The rest were one hit wonders, Brad the Younger, 2 runs, rbi, Art, rbi, Numbmaster, run, Colin, double, 2 runs, Jeff Williams, double, 2 runs, Coach Eddie, 2 runs, rbi, Hannaman, rbi, and Dale Roweberry, 2 rbis. Hitting was troubled by 'this never happens' events like JT going 0-4 and Haley the Younger hitting into a double play. After the game, Numbsters and supporters celebrated Hannaman's birthday! He is old, exactly how old? Well, next year its senior discount time!! Plus, showing how generous he is, he also made the last out of the game and will bring much refreshment next week!

April 3rd, 2003
On an evening more suited for snowmobiling than softball, Numb met for the first game of the year against Jo's Heroes. Returning for Numb after 3 years was none other than Tim 'The Timulator' Townsend!! Alan 'Hoover' Titche and Stan 'The Man' Robinson also returned after playing last season with thier 'other' team, the Flatliners.
Inspired by these returning players and sporting an mind boggling 14 somewhat healthy bodies, Numb goes out and ineptly falls behind 5-2. But the bats come alive and Numb notches 6 in the third, highlighed by JT's triple turning around a weak double play grounder he hit in the first. Defense, anchored by Alan and Jeff Williams stifled the Heroes until the last inning, but by then it was to late, as a 14-5 lead was held. Leading hitters were Stan Da Man, 3-3, triple, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Numbmaster, 2-2, 2 runs, rbi, Dale 'Mr. Millie' Roweberry, 2-2, run, Rootbeer Haley, 2-3, 2 runs, 2 rbis, JT, 2-3, two triples!, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Big Art, 2-3, run, rbi, Colin, 2-3, two doubles, run, 2 rbis. One hit wonders were Haley the Younger (Brad), 2 runs, Alan 'Hoover' Titche, double, 2 rbis, and The Timulator, rbi. Jeff Williams made the last out of the game and will bring the refreshments next week
