Game Summaries:

August 28th, 2003
Numb vs. Jo's Heroes for the title. This game was about hitting, they had it, we didn't. Although an umpiring gaffe (blatant mistake) might have made a difference, but maybe not. In the midst of a 1st inning rally, a Hero was found to be wearing metal spikes. A D3 no-no, that the rules clearly state the runner is out. Well, the runner was replaced, no out was recorded. Leading Numb, when we weren't fielding, were Numbmaster, 2-2, run, rbi, Brad the Younger, 2-3, run, rbi, and Art, 2-3, double, 2 runs, 4 rbis. One hit wonders were Rootbeer Haley, run, Alan, 2 runs, JT, 2 runs, rbi, Jeff Williams, rbi, Hannaman, and Dale, rbi.
Numb fielded a record 14, but the problem was the last five went 0-fer. Not the way to win. So Numb finishes 7-2, as does Jo's, but they beat us twice so are the mythical champs. D3 is like college football. Although purists might argue that Numb is the champion, since it only lost to a 7-2 team, while Jo's lost to inferior teams! As I recall, Dale Roweberry made the last out of the game and will bring refreshments (or pay Ed) for the start of Fall... against.... Jo's Heroes!!

This game had a lot of drama. Outfielders stumbling around in the slop, a rain delay, fly balls going to the fence (mostly by the opponents) and lots of Numb hits. Even with the rain delay, Numb smacks 25 hits in 5 innings to win 22-10. Numb hitters were lead by the Numbmaster, 4-4, 2 doubles, 2 runs, 6 rbis, Brad the Younger, 4-4, double, 3 runs, 2 rbis, Chaba de Hutt, 3-3, double, 3 runs, Rootbeer Haley, 3-4, 3 runs, rbi, JT, 2-3, triple, run, 2 rbis, Art Forma, 2-3, run, 2 rbis, Jeff Williams, 2-3, double, run, and Coach Eddie, 2-3, 2 runs, rbi. One hit wonders were Hannaman, run, Colin, 2 runs, 2 rbis and Newest Guy Dave, run, 2 rbis.
Newest Guy Dave returns to the lineup, and makes an out in the last inning. No problem, right? Well, the next 4 batters do not make an out, and as the Numbmaster clears the loaded bases with a double, the game is called and the last out of the game is... Dave! The official count makes this the 6th time this year. We may have to set up a PayPal donation site for him! Numb can take the Summer title with a win next week.
The beer breakdown this year is as follows: Dave 6, JT 3, Rootbeer Haley 2, Hannaman 2, Jeff Williams, Colin, Numbmaster, and Alan.

August 14th, 2003
Numb starts out slowly against the undermanned (only 8 players) Souls, trailing 4-1 after one inning, but 'pumps up' the offense, scores 15 runs in the second and cruises to a 19-4 win. The game ended with Numb hitting, some sort of a 15 run rule. Leading the hit parade were Chaba de Hutt, 2-2, triple, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Numbmaster, 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Art Forma, 3-4, triple, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Brad the Younger, 2-3, run, 2 rbis, Jeff Williams, 2-3, 2 runs, rbi, Colin, 2-3, 3 runs, Dale Roweberry, 2-3, triple, 2 runs, 4 rbis, and Rootbeer Haley, 2-4, 2 runs, rbi. One hit wonders were Stan da Man and JT, run.
The weak hitting Souls were not much of a threat, the few defensive gaffes committed did not hurt. Newest Guy Dave did not play, and actually injured himself in a water skiing incident in order to avoid the expense of buying more beer. In his absense, JT made the last out of the game, but argued that the runner he forced out was actually the last out. Nice try, but with great power comes great responsibility... or something like that. Numb's true test comes next week as we go for the gold.

August 7th, 2003
Reversing our earlier reversal, Numb scores 10 runs in the first inning, pounds out 23 hits and hangs on as the Putah Creek Lunkers score 13 runs to win 20-13. All 12 Numbsters had at least one hit. This game marked the return of Rootbeer Haley (coming back from injury) and Stan the Man Robinson (coming back from goofing off). Leading hitters are numerous, Alan Titche, 2-2, 3 runs, Stan the Man, 2-2, run, 2 rbis, Numbmaster, 3-4, 3 runs, 3 rbis, Art Forma, 3-4, triple, 2 runs, 4 rbis, Dale Roweberry, 3-4, home run, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Rootbeer Haley, 2-3, 2 runs, Colin Kark, 2-3, run, rbi and Newest Guy Dave, 2-4, double, 2 runs, rbi. One hit wonders were Brad the Younger, run, rbi, Coach Eddie, run, Hannaman, 2 runs, rbi, and Chaba de Hutt, rbi.
With all that hitting and running around, we were too tired to play defense, which didn't seem to matter as the Lunkers either hit the snot out of the ball or popped out. In the continuing saga of the last out of the game, Newest Guy Dave is in danger of going bankrupt as he once again make the last out for the 5th time this year. He should know better than to hit the ball hard, when dinks and weak, wildly spinning grounders are much more effective.

July 31th, 2003
Numb goes from 19 hits last week to 8. This game had all the excitement of a MLB pitchers duel, as Numb turns the 8 hits to 5 runs and wins, 5-1. Defense was once again solid, with Bradley tracking down the only long ball threat of the evening. Leading the sleeping offense was Newest Guy Dave, 2-3, 2 rbis. One hit wonders were Alan, who was masterful at shortstop, run, Numbmaster, rbi, JT, run, Mr. Williams, run, Coach Eddie, run, and Hannaman, rbi. Newest Guy Dave, the hitting star, in a Numbian twist, made the last out of the game and will pay the price. Hopefully, hitting will pick up as we can't rely on holding opponents to one run.

July 24th, 2003
Numb pounds out 19 hits, gathers 5 walks, but only scores 11 runs. The good news is that Numb defense was solid, holding Mad Skillz to 4 runs in an 11-4 victory. Leading the hitting were Brad the Younger, 4-4, run, rbi, the returning Newest Guy Dave, 4-4, run, Art Forma, 2-3, triple, 2 runs, 2 rbis, Dale, 2-3, run, JT, 2-4, triple, run, rbi, and Numbmaster, 2-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis. One hit wonders were Alan, run, Coach Eddie, rbi, and Colin, run. Alan made the last out of the game and will pay the price.

July 17th, 2003
Numb bats come alive in an interesting game where we lead 4-0 and were down 9-4. Nursing an 11-9 lead, Numb scores 5 in the top of the last inning and puts away usually hard hitting Cary Johnson Construction 16-9. Defense was solid, turning a couple of double plays and tracking down flies.
Leading the 17 hit parade were Brad the Younger, 3-4, 3 runs, rbi, Alan, 3-4, 3 runs, rbi, JT, 3-4, 2 runs, 5 rbis, and Colin (coming alive) 3-4, run, 2 rbis. The newly engaged Jeff Williams was 2-4, run, rbi and the one hit wonders were Numbmaster, 2 runs, rbi, Arty, 2 runs, rbi and Chaba de Hutt, run. I think Hannaman made the last out of the game, but I could be wrong...

July 3rd, 2003
In a tune up for the Fourth of July Tournament in Davis California, Numb finds their bats and 11 runs to beat Whatever 11-4. Strong defense and explosive innings in the third (4 runs) and fourth (6 runs) allowed Numb to take and hold on to the lead.
Numb was lead by the NumbMaster himself at 3-4, 1 RBI, a slew of 2-3ers in JT, DBL., 2RBIs Mr. Milly, 2 RBIs, and the Hannaman.  In a "like-father-like-son" affair, Bradley the Younger and his pop Craig "Rootbeer" Haley were at .500. 1-3ers were Eddy-da-Bulge, Chaba-da-Hut, and Alan 'Hoover' Titche. There were two Numbster who shamed themselves as O-fers, and they shall remain nameless, although Joe "I'm a legacy" Macreana did get a walk, while Colin, "Mr. Clean" Kark needs to hit the cages, and buy a bottle of Ouzo for the games.  In a Numbly turn of fate, JT made the last out, and will bring the beer.

June 26th, 2003
Numb bats go stone cold dead, defense goes into a stupor and baserunning turns laughable as Numb fails on every level and gets lambasted by Jo's Heroes, 20-4. Luckily, the game was called or it would have been worse. Numb manages only 6 hits the whole game. The Haley men, Brad, 2-2, 2 runs, and Craig, 2-3, run lead the way. One hit wonders were Dale, run, rbi and JT, rbi. 6 Numbsters went 0-fer.
The Numbmaster made the last out of the game. 'Nuff said.
