Game Summaries:

NUMB WINS CHAMPIONSHIP, GOES 7-0!!! Numb caps a historic season by riding a 9 run first inning to a 13-8 victory. Numbsters came out of the woodwork, as 14 people batted and played.
Junior led off with a home run to spark Numb and Troy smashed a 3 run shot. Although the other team looked like refugees from "The Land of the Giants" (they were BIG!!), Numb defense played well and killed many potential rallies. JT showed his managerial skills by benching himself. Mike "the Franchise" Watari returned from his studies just to show he could, and combined with the Kipster for a sweeeeeeet double play.
Numb has gone undefeated only one other time in its history, in 1988, in the Jimmy Lucero era. After the game everyone celebrated by scarfing hotdogs, smoking cigars (ugh) and partaking of Ouzo, Champagne, and sudz. Surprisingly, no ambulances or law enforcement officials were required. Even though we only managed 6 hits (yes, I said SIX), Numb eeked out 10-7 victory to CLINCH THE SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP!! How did we manage this? Primarily because the other team dropped several fly balls that wouldn't have been easier to catch if the ball were handed to them. But hey, we're not proud...we'll take any W we can get! Even though Tim was batting, JT technically made the last out when caught off first base on a liner, and as a result must provide the sudz this week.

Numb wins!! Numb wins!! In an astounding come-from-behind victory, Numb spots a bunch of fuzz-faced youngsters a 10-1 lead after 2 innings and rallies to win 11-10. After inflating their egos by allowing 3 balls over outfielders heads in the top of the second, the defense arrived and stifled the kids. JT vacuumed the middle from the pitchers mound and the Timinator made a long running grab to save at least 2 runs.
Numb offense was powered by the return of Mike Silva, who went 3-4 with 4 RBIs while smoking a double and a rare triple. He was out last week with severe back pain brought on by old age. Steve Hanna shocked the crowd by reaching second for a double and went 2-2 with a walk and scored 3 runs. Mark Hinman made the only out in the winning half of the last inning, and is bringing the suds.

In an amazing and bizarre game, even by Numb standards, we improved to 4-0 with a 15-10 victory over the Rug Munchers. The Munchers scored 6 runs in the bottom of the last inning during what can be considered a failed fielding experiment by the team.
Everyone hit extremely well, but Tim "The Timinator" Townsend at 3 for 3 with a homerun, and Mark "Big Bird" Hinman with a triple and 4 RBIs, stood out from the crowd. Mark also gave us one of the more bizarre highlights of the game when he simply "forgot" to take his position in the last inning...opting to chat with Greg on the bench.
On one good note, we've assured ourselves that Troy won't beg to play shortstop for a while. Even the umps were lauging at...er...with him. Ed made the final out of the game, so yes, you guessed it....next week is "bulge beer".

September 19, 1996
Numb improves to 3-0 with a victory over the Souls, winning 8-5 in a needlessly close game.
Junior was the offensive star going 3-4, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 3 runs. Intrepid pitcher J.T. led a stellar defense by vacuuming up ground balls hit up the middle and thwarting the Souls' feeble comeback attempt.
Troy, thinking (wrongly) he was ending the game, made the last out and is the beermeister.

September 12, 1996
Numb survives another game by relying on the offensive production of Mike "The Franchise" Watari, (3 for 3 2 RBIs), and the defense of The "Secret Senator" who played a marvelous second base. By defeating Calgene 9-6, Numb ups its record to 2-0 (Hmmmm, remember that 3-0 start in Summer?) but loses "The Franchise" for the rest of fall due to some sillyness about an Engineering Registration exam. Good luck, Mike!!
In other news, Junior did NOT make the last out, leaving that honor to Mark "Big Bird" Hinman, who promply offered an excuse that he would be in Phoenix next week, but in Numb tradition paid up next weeks beer money to "The Bulge".

September 5, 1996
In a game where we did just about everything right, we survived a first inning homerun hit into the darkness of left field (find the ball yet, Mike?), and beat the Brew Crew 12 - 5.
It was a great "Mike" night, with Mike "The Franchise" Watari going 2 for 4 and playing superman at shortstop (how's your hand, Mark?), Mike "Big Dog" Silva continuing his hitting assault by going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, and Mike "The Webmaster" Ritchie going 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. "Secret Senator" played stellar second base as well, digging a lot of low throws out of the dirt and snatching outs from the jaws of errors.
Finally, in an amazing (and actually, quite funny) turn of events, Ron has to bring the beer for the THIRD STRAIGHT WEEK!! Hey Ron...we know the solution to your problem...don't make the last out!
