Game Summaries

August 22, 1996
We can't field, and we can't hit. As a result we lost 6 - 5 to Calgene. Ron fouled out with two outs and the bases loaded, and will have to bring the beer next season....maybe all season. We'll come back fresh for the fall league in two weeks!!

August 15, 1996
We played like a little league team during an appalling 18-7 loss to Jo's Heros. It was so bad that the umpire invoked the 10 run rule on us, even though we were the home team! Stupid rule.... Anyway, lack of timely hitting and terrible play in the field made this the ugliest game of the season. I think the Numb co-ed team could have beaten us tonight. Junior stopped talking long enough to make the last out, so now he has to bring the beer to our final game of the season. There is a nasty rumor afloat that we will invoke the "two drink minimum" rule BEFORE the next game!

August 8, 1996
Comfortably Numb marked the return of "Secret Senator" with a hard-fought, nail-biting victory over nemesis Calgene. The Senator, slightly rusty from a 3 week layover in Europe, managed to cover himself in dirt and not come up with a single grounder he dove for. Mark Hinman struck the big blow with a bases loaded double (could have been a triple, but for that little "missed first base" incident) and Frank 'the Black Hole' Quitugua made a game saving catch in the dark on a long fly ball to deep left center. Eddie 'the Bulge' Uhlir was seen smiling without having tasted one beer, and his futile attempt at hitting has him supplying the beer next week.(recap by MAS)

August 1, 1996
Managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Numb lost 12-8 in extended time. Numb would have won easily if it was not for the hitting of two ringers on the opposing team that combined for 3 triples and 7 RBIs (not that we're bitter, mind you). Mike "The Machine" Silva went 3 for 3 again, and Mike "The Franchise" Watari had another good game in the field and at the plate. Alas, Numb sinks to 3 and 3, and Frank brings the beer. On a sad note...Mike Silva has played his last game for numb as a 3x year old. We celebrated with beer and cake....and whimpering.

July 25, 1996
Comfortably Numb reached new depths of futility in losing to the decrepit Souls, 11-9. Leading 8-4, Numb suffered a defensive breakdown of epic proportions to give away 6 outs, leading to 7 Soul runs. The breakdown was marked by errant throws, missed fly balls, near-great plays and general panic. The offense was unable to make up the difference, although Mike 'the Franchise' Watari made a bid for a dramatic blast. Heroics aside, he is on line for the beer next week. Leading again was Mike Silva (3-3, 3 RBIs). Numb, in the usual fashion decided to blame the loss on "Secret Senator", who is on vacation.

July 18, 1996
We sucked.... Bad. We were playing for the league lead and managed to play a terrible game, losing 6-4. With the exception of a couple of slick double plays, and a great hitting performance by Mike Silva (3-3, 2 RBIs) and JT (2-2, bb), we embarrassed ourselves. A girls under-14 slowpitch team came over and kicked sand in our faces. Kip flied out to end the game, making him the beer meister for next week.

July 11, 1996
We beat one of our nemesis, Rug Munchers (great name, huh?), by a substantial margin. I don't remember the exact score, but it was something like 12-2. Ron, in his first game back from his suspension, was forced to wear the Numb "I'm Sorry" shirt because of his lame actions that got him suspended. Troy may have to wear it for the rest of the year! Steve has to bring the beer next week because he made the last out.


First two games lost in oblivion, but we won them!!!
