Final game of the year. End of Numb's 18th season. Numb scores 11 runs in the first inning, 5 in the second. Now, the bad news, defense is shaky, gives Lampost Pizza enough extra outs and Numb loses 18-17. Numb only scores 1 run after the second inning.
Mark Hinman emerges as the offensive star, smashing a grand slam and a triple to collect 6 RBIs. Junior goes 3-4 with a pair of triples, 2 runs, 1 RBI and Timmy adds a triple, 3 runs, 1 RBI, with a 3-3 night. Two hitters include Coach Eddie, Mark Cowin, and Mike Silva, double, 2 RBIs. Single hit Numbsters were Mike 'the Franchise' Watari, home run, 2 RBIs, Ripper, and Hanna who scored 2 runs.
Defense lets us down, our opposition was good, and we could ill afford to allow any extra outs. Done for the year, Numb retires to winter training, (pizza, beer, golf, New Years party) to emerge refreshed for spring.

I could say that Numb had never played better. I could say that no errors were committed, no popups were evident, all throws were on line. In fact, it was the perfect game. I could say all that. Unfortunately, the other team DIDN'T SHOW UP!!! Numb wins by forfeit. Speculation by the Numbsters runs rampant. Did they get lost? Did they read the scores from last weeks game and like the girlie-men they are remained home quaking and peeing in puddles on the floor? Are they victims of mind control? We will never know.
The beermeister for the last game of the year remains in doubt, although some say Mark Hinman is back on line for the last out in last weeks game. Perhaps the 'Ed pays' rule will be invoked.

Numb knew there was a whooping in the air, question was, would we be the whoopers, or the whoopees?? Well, Numb, lead by Kip 'the Ripper' Byars, put a big whooping on Calgene, degrading their manhood by the football-like score of 20-2. In the second game, again lead by Ripper, Numb rides a 13 run first inning to a 17-11 victory, sweeping a doubleheader for the first time.
All told, Ripper was 6-7 with a grand slam, triple and 10 RBIs. And, just to prove he was sandbagging all year, he started a double play on the ground with a diving grab. Numb defense arrived, turning double plays, nailing a runner at the plate, and actually catching the ball.
Offensive standouts for game 1 were Ripper, 3-3, triple, 3 runs, 4 RBIs and Silva, 2-2, 2 runs, 4 RBIs. Other 2 hitsters were the Franchise, double, 2 RBIs, Timulator, Coach Eddy and JT, each with 2 runs scored, Secret Senator, Marks Hinman and Cowin. Junior, Hanna and Chaba each collected one hit. The game ended with Numb batting, Coach Eddie making the last out.
In the second game, Ripper lead the way, 3-4, double, grand slam, 2 runs, 6 RBIs, Mike 'the Franchise' Watari, 3-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, Secret Senator, 3-4, 3 runs, and Chaba 'the Hutt', 3-4, 1 run. Smashing two hits were Timmy, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, JT, Mark Cowin, and Junior who had a triple. Only managing one hit were Silva, 3 RBIs, Hanna-man, Hinman and Coach Eddie. Mark Hinman made the last out, but since he brought the beer for the current game was taken off the hook by a plea-bargain with Ed.
In a social note, Numb was introduced to Jo, the namesake of Jo's Heroes. Although nowhere near Connie in stature, she was very nice.

Numb climbs out of the gutter with a thrilling, come from behind victory in extra innings over Jo's Heroes, 9-8. Steve Hanna provided the game winning hit only an inning after Kip 'the Ripper' Byars lived up to his name by crushing a 2 run triple and scoring to tie the game and force extra innings.
A rare defensive play by Numb loomed large as the game wore on. Already ahead by 3, a Hero hit a deep drive to left. Silva, thinking he had it, loped over and found the ball just out of reach. He threw a desperate rainbow relay to Mike 'the Franchise' Watari who threw a strke to Greg Chaba who applied the tag to nail the runner at home. Numb escaped the inning with no runs scored, to go on to offensive heroics.
Offensive standouts were 'the Francise, 3-3, 2 runs, double, Ripper, 2-2, triple, 2 RBIs, and Hanna Man, 3-3, 1 run, game winnng RBI. Two-hit hitters were JT, and Timmy, 2 doubles, while the Secret Senator, Silva, 2 RBIs, 'New Guy' Dave and Chaba each collected one hit. Mark Hinman, who knocked the tying run in with a flyout, made the last out and is Mr. Beer next week.

Numb, sleepwalking through the game, awakens in the last inning finding itself down 14-5. Numb bats finally come alive in a stirring comeback that rattles the Souls, but alas, falls short and Numb loses, 14-13. Numb errors again play a key role in the loss, extending Soul rallies and frightening Numb fans. Junior, arriving in work clothes awakens the offense (which did not score in the first 3 innings) and goes 3-3 with 1 run and 2 RBI's. Other 3-3 batters include Silva, 2 runs, triple, and JT, 1 run 1 RBI. Mike 'the Franchise' Watari smashed a homer en route to a 2-4, 1 run, 3 RBI night. Other 2 hit Numbsters were Coach Eddie, Secret Senator, and Chaba 'the Hutt' who collected a double. Marks Hinman and Cowin, Hanna Man, and the Ripper each had a hit. Numb hopes to revamp the defense, and continue the offense next week. Timmy made the final out with the tying run at third and will bring the beer.

Full of optimism, but void of players, a skeleton crew Numb loses to Lamppost Pizza 14-8 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. With 5 regulars missing, Coach Eddie reached into the past to pluck retired founding father Mark 'the Quiv' Hirzy out of retirement and recruited co-ed Numb sensation Darell to fill in. Unfortunately, the rest of the regulars stunk and took the newcomers with them. Staked to 2 runs because the other team started late, Numb could only score 6 of thier own. The only offense worth mentioning came from The Timulator, 3-3, 2B, 3B, 3 runs and Silva, 3-3, 2B, 1 RBI. To prove he was human, 'the Francise', concentrating hard on Vegas, ground into a double play, the first in his Numb career. Add 2 K's to Numbs offense, and it is clear why we lost. In addition, Numb committed just enough errors to extend the batting of the hard hitting opposition.
