Game Summaries:

Fighting off the doldrums, Numbs avenges the earlier thrashing by defeating Requiem 9-7 with a late 6th inning rally. Numb trailed all the way until the 6th when walks, errors, and the timely hit combined for 4 runs. New guy Dave lead the charge with 2 hits and a timely bases-loaded single. Others had one hit, but nothing spectacular enough for me to remember. Defense was good, with the outfield getting the call and responding.
Greg Chaba was tagged out at third for the Numb's last out, but beer blame should go to Junior for sending him. Numb is off for two weeks, except for Numb and Number, happening June 7th. Be there....

Tuning up for the weekend tournament, Numb falls meekly to hated Calgene, 16-6. Trailing throughout the game, Numb staged a late, very late, rally that was called off by the ten run rule. Numb's so-called offense was lead by Steve Hanna with 3 hits, while Eddie, JT and Mike Watari each collected 2. Defense was just bad enough to allow Calgene extra at-bats, which they obligingly turned into runs. In a twist of fate, the game was called with Silva at bat, leaving Chaba to pick up the beer.

Numb parlays good offense and adequate defense into a 13-3 thrashing of the hapless Souls. Missing 'The Franchise' and Junior, Kip 'the Ripper' lead off and scored 4 times while only getting one hit. Tim went 3-4 with a double and 3 RBIs. Mike Silva regained his stroke and went 4-4 with 4 RBIs. The bottom of the order continued to produce, with Mark Hinman, Chaba and Steve Hanna collecting 2 hits each. Not much to report on defense, as the Souls were limited to pop-ups, weak grounders and walks by JT. Chaba made the last out and will bring the beer as we head into the 'sort-of' playoffs.

Numb survives the hit parade and wins 17-16 over Winning Ugly with the tying run on 3rd and the winning run on first. Numb's offense sprung to life and tallied runs in every inning. An early lead was wiped out by an errror filled second inning, leading to 6 Ugly runs. Ugly errors opened the gates for a strong Numb finish, which was needed. Numb Errors almost cost us the game, as the Uglies came back in the last inning from 17-12 to 17-16.
Every Numbster got at least one hit with Junior collecting 6 RBIs on 3-5 hitting, Mike 'The Franchise' Watari scored 3 times while going 4-5. The Timulater ripped a double and triple and collected 3 RBIs while going 3-5. Greg Chaba and Steve Hanna anchored the bottom of the lineup going 4-4 and 3-4 respectively. Junior lined out for the final out, and is the beermeister for next week.

In what will likely go down as the strangest game of the season, the Numbsters rallied over the Rug Munchers by the score of 13 - 4. There would have been human sacrifice(s) if we had lost this game.
In the first two innings we let the other team off the hook by scoring only one run after having the bases loaded with nobody out (uh, guys...this is softball!). Jay "The Pirate" Tyburczy had the first Numb hit of the game...WHICH OCCURRED IN THE FOURTH INNING!! In the fifth, down by a score of 4 - 2, Numb took advantage of having the first SIX runners walked to power home 10 runs that sealed the game. The "Big Dog" had three RBIs and a key double and JT pitched an excellent game. Everyone else contributed in some manner...mostly by taking walks and scoring a run in the 5th. Final tally...Runs: 13 Walks: 15!! Hits: 10 (yes...sad).
In a flukey occurance that could have only happened on this night, Mike Silva (who made the SECOND out) got stuck bringing the beer after the game was called on time. Strange...

On this fine Thursday night, Numb snatched victory from the jaws of defeat instead of the other way around. Down 8-2 early, Numb scored two runs in the last inning on a CLUTCH two out single by Greg Chaba "The Hutt" to tie the game. Then, in the second extra inning, scored 4 big runs to seal the victory by a score of 15 - 11!! The defense was tight, the hitting timely, the beer drinkable, and the pizza free! It was a night to savor. Leading the charge were Mark Cowan and the Kipster, both going 4 for 4 with timely hits and RBIs. JT and Big Dog each scored 3 runs, and many other players contributed. In all the excitement, I pulled a hamstring just keeping score. Submitted by former Numbmaster Mike Ritchie

A cold wind blows through Davis. A chill wind blows through Numb as Requiem hurts us badly, 19-4.
Timmy lead what is laughingly refered to as the Numb 'attack' with three hits, while Coach Eddie, JT (who broke out of his last season slump), and Silva each contributed 2 hits. Steve Hanna, who in a serious breach of Numb tradition FORGOT TO BRING THE BEER, fittingly made the last out. Numb defense was not much of a factor, as Requiem hit so well, that in one inning we got two outs by throwing runners out!
Post game comments were centered on bringing Uozo to the next game, so if we play terribly, at least we have an excuse.

Numb brings new, shiny bats to its second game. They work, Numb doesn't and we fall to the Brew Crew 20-8.
Bombarded by Brew Crew hits and a few key errors, Numb wastes a rare over-the-fence homer by Junior, two triples by Tim and two hit performances by Mike Watari and Coach Eddie. The first two innings were highlighted by screaming line drives, as Numb scored 8 runs, but the rest of the game was marred by lazy pop flies, as Numb scored zilch.
Birthday boy Steve Hanna (who is the oldest Numbster at 48!!) is on line for the beer.

Numb Emerges From Hibernation.
It appears that winter has been good to Numb. Emerging refreshed and only half practiced, Numb powered by the Infield Fly Roolerz 26 to 9. Playing powerball with a borrowed green Louisville Slugger AB40 ultra thin walled construct, thin handled bat, Mike Watari (3 for 4) and Junior (3 for 4) and Timmah Townsend blasted homers deep in to the darkness of Community Park Field. Additionally Mark Cowan (3 for 4 ), Mark "Big Bird" Hinman (3 for 3), Ed "da bulge" Uhlir (3 for 4), the Secret Senator (3 for 4), and even the new guy Dave (3 for 4), all turned in great "power-at-the bat" games. And while the Roolerz only sported 9 fielders, Numb's fireworks display of hitting would have destroyed them even if they had fielded 11. A great start to the new season, and the new year. To CONNIE! On a more somber note, Mark Cowan managed to use his one out at bat during the beer frame, and is obliged to bring the suds for the next game.
