Game Summaries:
October 8, 1998
Numb meets Altered Minds and stays in the game until the 7th inning, when Altered hits and Numb miscues lead to 7 runs and Numb falls, 14-7. Offense, still sluggish, was adequate, but not timely. Despite 14 hits, we only scored 7 runs, 3 on Juniors go ahead 3 run homer.
Noteworthy hitters were Junior, 3-4, HR, 2 runs, 4 rbis, Hanna-man, 2-3, 1 run, rbi, The Secret Senator, 2-3, run, and 'Numbmaster' Silva, 2-4. Mike 'the Franchise' Watari, JT, Coach Eddie, the Ripper and Mitch had 1 hit each.
Coach Eddie made the last out, but Frank will bring the beer on the double switch, since Eddie brought the beer this week. Numb will make the pre-last-game trek to Ding How next week, hoping to find inspiration in Chinese food and sake.

The cold winds of October freezes Numb's bats and Jo's Heroes avenges a summer loss to Numb by crushing them 14-3. Bottom line, no hitting. Add to that 5 deep balls by the Heroes and you have a smelly loss.
Numb managed 12 hits, but only 3 runs. Noteworthy hitters were Junior, 3-4, Mike 'the Franchise' Watari, 2-4 1 run, 1 rbi, Chaba 'the Hutt', 2-3, 'Numbmaster' Silva 1-3, tripe, 1 run, 1 rbi and Timmy, 1-4, double, run. That is about it.
While we were batting, and staging an admittedly weak comeback, the game was called on the dreaded 10 run rule. Frank made the only out of the inning and is on line for the beer.

Playing against a team that had slithered from D2 into D3, and then added 3
power hitters, Numb took on the McCormmick Brew Crew in what turned out to
be an uphill fight. Adding to Numbs burden was the fact that quite a number
of Numb were conspicuously absent. Bigdog Silva, New Guy Dave, Hanna Man,
and Secret Senator (leave of absence) were absent, while Kippy called in
lame 4 hours before game time with a back injury that had been bugging him
all week.
Coach Eddy da Bulge responded by performing a major recruitment of players
and fans at his work, netting Sue (fan), Mitch and Mat. This bolstered our
boys to ten players and 4 fans, and we were able to take the field with a
full complement of players. So with "borrowed" guys Mat in right field,
Mitch at first base, and Slow Hand Cowan at second base (and not too bad at
it, I might add), Numb started the game.
Things started slowly for Numb, falling behind the Crew by four runs in the
first inning. Still, Numb bats kept us within two runs for the first four
innings. Hits by Timmah, The Franchise, and Junior, as well as JT, Bulge,
and the balance of the order kept Numb hanging in the game tooth and nail.
And suddenly, the pitching kicked in. JT was able to reduce the meatball
battery of "the Crew" to long (looooonng) high fly balls, dragged down by
the Numb out field of Junior, Timmah, Baby Black Hole Barkley (Returning
from a Hiatus), and Mat. ...And the numb bats continued consistently.
Going into the bottom of the seventh, Numb held a formidable, although not
insurmountable by any means, seven run lead. Numb allowed two runners on,
and then crushed three of the next four batters to maintain the lead and
collect a heart warming win over the Brew Crew 16-9.
..And there was much merriment...

Numb battles arch rival Calgene to a 10-5 victory. Since it has been so long since the game, and my memory is muddled from vacation, all I can say it that we played well enough to win.
'Numbmaster' Silva again went 3-3, with a double, 1 run and 2 rbis. This makes him (me) 8-8 (that ought to put a stop to that!). Mike 'the Franchise' Watari went 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis and Coach Eddie went 2-3 with one run. A number of Numbsters each collected one hit.
Watari's only out was the last one of the game and bets are on wether he will remember the beer or not!

Numb toys with the Souls until the offense wakes up and puts them away, 19-6. Numb collects 20 hits and a rash of extra base hits. Leading the charge was Mike 'Numbmaster' Silva, 3-3, double, triple, 3 runs, 1 rbi. I would have had more rbis, but Junior, who went 2-4, homer, triple, 2 runs, 5 rbis, stole them all! Coach Eddie and Mike 'the Franchise' Watari each went 3-4, with a double, 1 run, 1 rbi and a double, 2 runs, 2 rbis respectively. Greg Chaba 'the Hutt' went 2-3, 2 runs and so did the Timulator, who also doubled and had 1 rbi. JT, New Guy Dave (triple), Hanna-man, and Frank 'Baby Barkley' Quitugua (double) each had one hit.
Defense was much improved from last week, with JT doing a good job at second base, and Timmy pitching. Lack of screaming line drives by the Souls helped in that regard. Hanna-man made the last out and will bring the beer for next week's game.

Numb starts off the Fall with a loss to Asian Automotive (who's team was composed mostly of Latinos, go figure) 17-4. Missing 'the Franchise', Timulator, the Secret Senator and Hanna-man, Numb had many players out of position and even recruited a visiting young woman to catch. Since Numb only had nine, the theory was to get an extra fielder. Unfortunately, for this to work, the fielder actually had to catch and throw the ball! This game was notable for the return of Frank 'Baby Barkley' Quitugua who played well given his long absence from Numb.
Offense was some sort of sick joke, with Junior and Silva rising above the poo poo girly-men of Numb, going 2-3 with 2 triples, 2 runs and 2-2 with 2 rbis respectively. New Guy Dave, Chaba and Cowin each went 1-3 and Kip 'the Ripper' went 1-4. That's it, 8 hits, 4 runs.
Defense was equally futile as you might expect. The low light was runners at first and second, no outs. Fly ball to right center was caught and in the ensuing chaos of throws and misses, both scored with ease. We ended up with Junior at first (due to injuries), Coach Eddie at second, Kip at shortstop, Mark Cowin at third. Christie 'Dr. K' made the last out so Coach Eddie will bring the beer because he asked her to play.
