Game Summaries:

August 27, 1998
On a warm late summer evening, Numb had a rematch with Yolo Fed C.U./Duer Glass. Numb played much better, but remained offensively impotent and falls 8-5.
Numb offense was anemic, although 10 out of 11 Numbsters got hits, only 2 had more than one. Mike 'the Franchise' Watari again lived up to his nickname with a 4-4 effort, and the Secret Senator, still glowing from the Fast Break visit last week, went 2-4 with a double. Note that none of these efforts produced a run or rbi. Why?, you ask, well all 8 remaining Numbskulls went 1-3, with Timmy's triple the highlight.
Numb defense was improved, with New Guy Dave the standout after snagging a difficult fly ball and nailing a runner at the plate. Small miscues allowed extra bases, but overall, the defense was good enough to keep us in the game. Junior, having a bad day, made the last out and will bring the beer to start the Fall season, which starts next week.

August 20, 1998
Numb, basking in the glow of two members of the Sacramanto King's Fast Break Dance Team, managed to play horrible defense and loses to Chuck & Duck, 19-7.
Numb offense was ragged, as none of the first three batters scored or collected an rbi. Chaba 'the Hutt' and Mike 'Numbmaster' Silva each went 2-2, with 1 run and 1 rbi each. Otherwise, all other Numbsters got one hit, with one going hitless. JT, Kip 'the Ripper', and New Guy Dave made the most of their one hit, each crushing a triple. That was it. Did I mention the Fast Break DID show up?
Last week's amusing derfs turned into this week's disaster as we kept giving our opponents 4, 5 and sometime 6 outs an inning. Not the thing to do against a team that can hit. JT made the last out of the game and will replace me as the 'Beer Man'.

August 13, 1998
Recovering from the Chuck & Duck debacle and the unexplained lack of the Fast Break, Numb manages to dominate the punchless Soul's and win, 11-3.
Offensively, Numb was lead by the JT, comeback in full swing, who went 2-2, 2 runs, 1 rbi. Timmy, 'the Ripper' and Coache Eddie each went 2-3, with 1 run, 3 rbis and a triple, 1 rbi, and 1 run, 1 rbi respectively. Except for one, all other Numbsters collected one hit each and Junior struck out looking, causing quite a stir among the Fast Breakless bench. Did I mention the Fast Break didn't show up?
Anyway, there were enough amusing derfs in the field to keep the fans entertained, and Hanna Man made an outstanding defensive play that left all Playfields abuzz. Yours truely made the last out of the game and will bring the beer next week, where rumor has it the Fast Break will appear!

August 6, 1998
Numb recovers defensively, but not offensively and loses to Chuck and Duck, 12-6. The game was closer than the score, but Numb's lack of clutch hitting proved costly.
Offensively, Numb was lead by the Timulator, 3-4, 2 runs, 1 rbi. Junior went 2-3, 1 run and the Pirate JT, the Franchise Watari and Numbmaster Silva each went 2-4. Kip 'the Ripper', Chaba the Hutt, Hanna-man and the Secret Senator each collected one hit. Coach Eddie set the defensive standard, hustling, making plays, and backing up the inevitable errant throws.
The game was marked by lack of the 10 run rule or any whining, complaining or grand standing. Chuck and Duck simply beat our sorry butts. Kip ground into a game ending double play and is the 'Beer Man' for the next game which will feature two members of the Sacramento Kings Fast Break Dance Team as base coaches!!

July 30, 1998
Numb commits numerous errors, doesn't hit, and loses to Rounding Third, 21-9. Defensive breakdowns were the downfall, leading to most of the opponent's runs. Only Coach Eddie, playing hurt, could hold his head high.
Offensively, Numb was lead by Junior and New Guy Dave, each 2-2, Junior belting a triple and 3 rbis, and NGD collecting 1 rbi. The Secret Senator, Mike 'the Franchise' Watari and JT each went 2-3, with 1 rbi, a double, and 2 rbis respectively. The Timulator got one hit, a triple, and 2 rbis. That was it for offense. The paucity (look it up!) of at bats shows the futility of the Numb offense.
The ending was made worse by the childish stalling antics of Rounding Third, apparently fearful that Numb would overcome their 12 run lead. Nonetheless, Numb was '10 run ruled' again and Chaba made the last (actually second) out.

July 23, 1998
Numb, playing shoddy defense with many players out of position, keeps the bats hot and puts Altered Minds away in the last inning, 21-8. Numb only managed 25 hits, but every Numbster notched at least one hit. Two Numbsters were perfect, lead by 'the Secret Senator' 4-4, 2 runs, 3 rbis and Numbmaster Silva, 3-3, double, 3 runs, and 3 rbis.
Other offensive standouts include JT, continuing his comeback, 3-4, triple, 3 runs, 2 rbis, Mark Cowin, 3-4, double, 2 runs, 1 rbi and 'leadoff' Chaba, 3-5, 2 runs. Two hitters were 'New Guy' Dave who crushed a triple and collected 4 rbis, Mike 'the Franchise' Watari who also tripled, Hanna-man, and Suprise Special Numbster Mark Hinman. Coach Eddie and Junior collected one hit each.
The game ended with Numb at bat (STUPID 10 run rule again!). Numb had batted around and 'the Franchise' had made the only out of the inning and will bring the beer. Numb, fearing Mike will be 'beer-impaired' given his lack of experience at bringing the beer, has asked Coach Eddie to help him through the process.

July 9, 1998
Batting with only 9 Numbsters in the field, Calgene smacks the ball around and capitalizes on miscues to score 12 runs in the top of the first. Numb, buoyed by Junior finally showing up, scores 10 in the bottom and goes on to crush Calgene 25-13. Offense was the name of the game as Numb pounded out 29 hits, and batted around in the first three innings. Three Numbsters were perfect, lead by 'the Franchise' 5-5, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Hanna-Man, 4-4, 3 runs, 4 rbis and the Secret Senator, 3-3, 4 runs.
Other offensive standouts include newly appointed leadoff man Chaba, 4-5, 3 runs, 1 rbi, Coach Eddie, playing hurt, 3-4, 2 runs, the newly energized JT, 3-4, double, 4 runs, 3 rbis and Mark Cowin, 3-4, 2 runs, 3 rbis. Junior and New Guy Dave each collected 2 hits, with Junior adding 4 rbis and the Numbmaster Silva was the poo-poo girly man, with only one hit.
Defense was adequate, given the offensive output, but good plays were made on a force out from the outfield at third and a rundown at home. JT's only out came on the last at-bat, so he is 'Beer Man' next week.

July 2, 1998
What a difference a week makes! Numb, looking nothing like the team that played last week, pounded the uncharacteristically listless Jo's Heroes 14-4. The game ended as the Heroes were rallying, but failed to close the 10 run gap. Stupid rule, no one understands it and it really detracts from the game. Anyway, Junior again led the attack, going 4-4 with a triple, 3 runs and a eye-popping 7 rbis. He is on a Watarian pace, currently 6-6 in 2 games (that ought to put a stop to that!).
Other offensive standouts include the aformentioned Watari, 3-4, 3 runs, Silva, 3-4 and Coach Eddie, 3-4, 1 run. Ripping 2 hits each were the Ripper, 2-3, 1 run, 1 rbi and Chaba the Hutt, 2-3, 1 run. Timmy, JT, and the Secret Senator had one hit each.
Defense was masterful, turning 2 double plays and JT made the play of the game, after scrambling for a deflected ball, flipped it backwards to Kip at second to end an inning.
The Secret Senator made the last out, and will supply Numb's moral support next week.

You would think that a team with the creative name of 'Yolo Fed C.U./Duer Glass' would be a friendly, softball challenged bunch. But nooooo! These professionals (an obvious tournament team), resplendant in their baseball pants and $200 bats soundly whipped Numb, 18-1. With a 14-0 lead, these bozos, perhaps seeking to impress their womenfolk, were coaxing walks out of JT and taking extra bases on base hits. I suppose they wanted to excitedly call home and brag to their mamas that they walked in a Thursday night D-3 game! Bring on the signing bonus!
Nonetheless, Numb offense reached a staggering low, with 5 Numbsters notching a goose egg. Junior, the Secret Senator and New Guy Dave emerged as the only non poo poo girly men, going 2-2 except for New Guy Dave, who only got up once!
Defense was shaky, too, with enough miscues to extend YFCUDG rallies into ludicrous territory.
Chaba the Hutt made the last out, and will supply the neccessary lubricant for Numb's creaky machine. Jo's Heroes is the foe next time, and Numb must regroup and show its stuff.
