Game Summaries:

June 3, 1999
Since I was out of town, JT provided this brief phone update of the game. Numb hits well (JT only remembered that he hit a double and a triple!) but kind of crapped out on defense and fell after two extra innings to Duer Glass, 15-14.
Other memorable quotes from the phone message were: 10-4 lead, stupid defense, dropped balls, too bad, whiners (refering to our foes) and fucking whiners. I got the impression that Duer Glass was whining, which certainly jives with thier sandbagging, Richard Cranium (formal name for dickhead) attitudes.
Numb is off for a week with Summer league starting on Thursday the 18th of June. Hopefully, this league will be vacated by Duer Glass, who will go on to greater glory in D2 or C.

Numb's season continues on its twisty course. Start with the facts: Numb is missing its top 3 hitters, two Numb retirees are called in to substitute, Numb hits into 4 double plays during the game, collects 12 hits and only one Numbster has more than one hit. Oh, we are playing Jo's Heroes, who whupped us 17-4 earlier. So whats the outcome?? Numb lulls the Heroes into a stupor, scores 8 runs in the 4th inning trailing 3-0, and wins 11-4.
The 'Secret Senator' was the only offensive force, going 3-4, run, 2 rbis. Numb manages to collect the majority of hits in one inning. Defense was great, anchored by Alan 'no nickname' who played a stellar shortstop. The Numb replacements all played well and all told it was an unlikely victory, but a welcome one. This was a game where even the winners are shaking their heads in disbelief!! JT made the last out on a double play of course and has to bring the beer.

Numb provides a new definition for the work 'lackluster' with a 6-5 loss to Calgene, which won for the second time this year. We squandered 16 hits to produce only 6 runs, 5 in the last inning, although we got a full 7 innings, which makes it worse. It was a total team effort as fly balls dropped from gloves, throws found their way to the fence and our lazy fly balls descended into Calgene's eager gloves.
New Guy Dave, a stellar 4-4, but only 1 rbi lead the offensive, and I hesitate to say this, charge. Kip 'the Ripper' went 2-3, 2 runs, rbi. Mike 'the Franchise', JT, Coach Eddie, and Chaba each went 2-4, with JT's triple, and Eddie's run the highlights (did I mention offense was pathetic?). Chaba made the last out and will bring the beer next week. I can't write any more about this game, its too depressing!!

Numb vs. the Souls, Community Park, what do you think? Well, thats not what happened! Numb, plauged by a crappy defense and weak offense and the Souls, doing what they do best, managed to secure a 6 run lead in the last inning, 13-7. Numb turns to its final at bat. Like the Kings finally learning how to play defense, Numb learns patience at the plate and rides 3 walks and a bunch of timely hits to score 8 runs with NO OUTS to win 15-13. The game was called due to time, but Numb was poised to score even more. Note, due to the STUPID 10 run rule, if Numb had been down by 10, this comeback would not have occured. I HATE the 10 run rule!!
No defense of note except for Mike 'the Franchise' Watari's two double plays, although to be fair he had his share of errors! Again, Numb did not hit particularly well, but hit very timely. Hanna-man went 3-3, 1 run 2 rbis. New Guy Dave and Chaba added to the bottom of the order's dominance by each going 2-3, with a double, 2 runs, 2 rbis and a double, 1 run and an eye-popping 4 rbis respectively. Other than the forementioned Watari's 2-4, run, 2 rbis, no Numbster had more than one hit. JT made the last out in the previous inning, and according to the holy book of Numb, must buy the beer for next weeks game.

Beautiful evening, Numb vs. Altered Minds. What could be better? Well a convincing Numb victory, thats what!! Numb rides a streaky offense, highlighted by a 10 run third inning, to a 13-4 win. The defense showed up to play and turned 3 double plays and nailed runners at third and home. Oh, I promised JT that I would mention his high number of walks.
No one notched more that two hits, but everyone seemed to hit in the third inning, when we scored 10 runs. Coach Eddie lead the team at 2-3, 2 runs. Kip 'the Ripper', Mike 'the Franchise', Numbmaster, the Secret Senator and New Guy Dave all went 2-4. JT, Chaba and Alan (no nickname yet) tallied one hit each. New Guy Dave made the last out and has to pay the price...

With the wind finally died down, Numb battles hard, but falls to Duer Glass 15-13. Timmy, who deliberately made the last out in the bottom of the 6th with Numb down 4 and 2 outs, turned that seemingly boneheaded play into a real chance for victory. Numb rallied from 5 down in the bottom of the seventh to have the tying run on second with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Unfortunately, the rally fell short.
For the third game in a row, every Numbster notched at least one hit, and Numb totaled 22 hits. Leading hitters were again Mike 'the Franchise' Watari, 3-3, 1 run, and the red-hot Ripper, 4-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis. Other standouts were New Guy Dave, 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbis, with 2 hit efforts by the Secret Senator, double, 1 run, 2 rbis, JT, double, 2 runs, rbi, Numbmaster, run, rbi and Chaba, triple, run, rbi.
Defense was marred by a few gaffes, but none figured prominently in the defeat. Duer Glass is a first class hitting team and earned the runs they scored. Hanna-man made up for his lack of beer last week and provided the post game refreshments. The Secret Senator made the final out and will provide some quality suds for next weeks game.

Numb returns to the friendly confines of Community park, smacks 25 hits, including 4 home runs and crushes the Brew Crew 23-7. The return of Mike 'the Franchise' Watari sparks Numb as Watari, amid questions (OK, STUPID questions) of 'Can he still play?', smacks a leadoff homer.
Again, offensively, everyone notched at least one hit, but unlike last week, 8 Numbies recorded multiple hits. We were lead by Watari, 5-5, 2B, HR, 2 runs, 4 rbi, and Hanna-man, 4-4, 4 runs, 2 rbi. Other standouts were Coach Eddie, 3-4, 2 runs, rbi, Kip 'the Ripper', 2-3, 2 runs, 3 rbis, Timmy, 2-4, 2HRs, 2 runs, 4 rbis, Chaba 'the Hutt', 2-4, HR, 2 runs, 2 rbis.
Defense was a non-issue, as we played well enough to secure the win. Mike 'Golf Coach' Lamb (he really is!) recorded his first Numb hit, and also became the first Numbster in history to injure himself between innings! Unfortunately, the injury may be serious. Hanna-man, in yet another lapse (he is 50, you know) forgot to bring the beer! So the post game celebration occured at Symposium (home of Uozo). JT made the last out and will bring the beer next week.

April 15, 1999
A warm spring evening, tax day. Both spell doom for Numb as we lose 17-4 to Jos Heroes. Other than lack of offense, Numb really didn't play that poorly. The Heroes took major advantage of Numb's 9 fielders (as well they should) and socked the ball where we weren't.
Offensively, everyone notched at least one hit, but only JT and Coach Eddie, got more than one at 2-3, with JT scoring twice. All others, execpt New Guy Dave, who only batted twice, went 1-3, with Numbmaster Silva driving in 2 runs. Hanna-man made the last out and will pay the penalty.

Rained out.

Numb Wins the Pennant, Numb Wins the Pennant, Numb Wins…er….!
It was a cold, but windless, freezing spring day…. The game started slowly with an abbreviated lineup of nine Numb players garnering 3 walks in the first 6 batters. Numb lead early 4 to 3 in what appeared to be a closely contested match. And then suddenly Asian Auto batters came alive, leaping to a 10 to 6 lead in the middle innings through socking 4 long home runs, one which was an unfortunate bad hopping outfield ball that turned into a grand slam.
Things looked bleak for our Numbies…as they often do…. And then … N-U-M-B R-A-L-L-Y!!
Late in the game, New Guy Dave started off with a retaliatory long ball, miffing the opposing out field players. Not to be out done, Kippy tagged a 4 bagger as well. Then, singles from JT, Chaba, Hanna, then a two bagger by New Guy Dave, two more singles by Kippy and the Secret Senator, a three bagger by The Timminator, followed by a single from Co-Cheddy , ANOTHER homer, this time from Chaba, MORE singles from Borrowed Guy Mike and Hanna, and we had a classic Numb rally that got our boys to a 20 to 10 lead. …and the win!!!
JT went 3 for 3 (1 Triple), New Guy Dave 2 for 2 (1 homer), then Senator, Co-Cheddy, Chaba (1homer) all went 3 for 4, followed by Timmah, Borrowed Guy Mike and Hanna collecting good performances of 2 for 3.
What a win! What a way to start the year! And New Guy Dave doesn’t feel bad about having to bring the beverages next game…
