Numb and Numb-er Tournament and BBQ Update:
Overall observations: Guys came to HIT! There were very few walks in any
game. There were no arguments of import with the umps (of course, since one
of them didn't show up it was hard to bitch at him). Also, three games per
team was obviously just enough for a near-100 degree day. Hitting,
baserunning, defense, and blood sugar all faded as the afternoon wore on.
Round Robin established a clear pecking order. One overheated guy wanted to
keep playing and refused to acknowledge Barnstormers's capture of the coveted
recycled women's volleyball trophy.
First batter of the tourney, weekend warrior Ray Russell, homered and then
began berating himself and apologizing to his teammates for doing it with
the bases empty. In true D-league fashion, he made up for it by making an
out later in the same inning -- by homering again under the equalizer rule.
First game was a heavyweight slugout with a the 15-20 mph California
'Norther wind that Barnstormers brought down from Humboldt favoring hitters.

Third game: See Numb Recap
Game 4: The real gem of the tourney. Well played duke out, with Barnstormers
answering every Billy rally with a "I'll see your 3 runs and raise you 4"
to break their spirit and raise their anger, just in time for .....(see
next game)
Game 5: See Numb Recap
Game 6: Like deserving champs, Barnstormers struck early and kept the J.C.'s
comfortably at bay and then let it loose in the final innings with a
hitting barrage to cap their big day.
Scores from Numb-er were, in order; Billy Berroo 22, J.C.'s 13 Barnstormers 14, Numb 3 J.C.'s 11, Numb 6 Barnstormers 21, Billy 12 Billy 10, Numb 9 Barnstormers 17, J.C.'s 7
Webmaster's note: The Tournament owes its succes to those who organized and helped out. Main players were Tim Townsend and Jay Tyburczy with super
trooper support from Donna Hanna and Lisa. Thanks folks!!
