White Lupine
Lupinus arbustus
Lupines usually grow about 12 to 18 inches tall. There are several species, and they are quite difficult to tell apart. All of them have palmately compound leaves. Most species have blue or purple flowers, so this white variety is quite unusual. It is identified as Lupinus arbustus in the book "Utah's Intermountain Wildflowers", by Dixie E. Rose. None of my other reference books make any mention of it.
One species of Lupine, the Bluebonnet, is the state flower of Texas.
Some species can be poisonous to livestock during the time that the seeds are ripening, but may be safe at other times.
