Rushpink or Milkpink
Lygodesmia grandiflora

This must be quite a rare plant because I have only found it once, even though it has a very showy flowering head. A friend of mine, who is very knowledgeable about Utah wildflowers, had never seen one. It is a composite, with ray flowers only (usually 5 of them, each over an inch long).
When not in bloom, the plant may somewhat resemble a rush. The stems and leaves are long and wiry. Another name for the plant is "skeleton weed".
The genus name Lygodesmia is from two Greek words meaning "a bundle of pliant twigs". The species name grandiflora means "large flower".
