Waterleaf
(Hydrophyllum capitatum)

This plant grows in rich soil under the shade of maple and oak trees on the foothills. The tender shoots are edible.

The flower blossoms grow in dense clusters which are a couple of inches in diameter. The species name capitatum means "head", referring to these flower clusters.
The flowers are a light lavender in color. The stamens and stigmas are very long and extruded from the flowers.
