Winterfat
(Ceratoides lanata)
This is a low shrub -- it grows about two feet tall. It is gray-green
in color, and looks even lighter in color because it is covered with fuzzy
cottony hairs. It is sometimes called "white sage", even though it is
not at all related to sagebrush.
The leaves remain on the plant through most of the winter, making it a
good forage for livestock when other plants are scarce.
