Life Story of Lauretta Catherine Truman MathieLauretta was born on 4 Aug 1861 in Peoa, Summit County, Utah. The family moved to St. George, Utah where her father helped with the building of the St. George Temple. There was a young man, by the name of William Baird Mathie, who was also working on the Temple. He was a Scotsman and was working as a stone mason. He was to become Lauretta's husband on 23 May 1877 in the St. George Temple, only a month after the Temple was dedicated.
They had ten children, all of whom live to maturity, except one who died at birth. The names of those who lived are:
William Truman Mathie, b. 14 Mar 1880 in Hamblin, Washington, Utah - d. 6 Dec 1951 in Huntington, Emery, UtahLauretta was known for her work with the sick. Many, many times whe was called to go into the homes of the sick and care for them. Sometimes she would help for many months. There was one elderly couple whose home she went into to care for them for several months and after the husband died she took the wife into her own home to care for her until the wife died also.

Samuel Arthur, b. 7 Mar 1898 in Huntington, Emery, Utah - d. 11 Aug 1963 in Huntington, Emery, UtayWhen Lauretta and William first moved to Huntington, they lived in a little log house until William was able to build a very nice frame home for her and their small family.
She was always very active in the Relief Society. For her work with sick, she never received any pay. Her daughter Ellen (Nellie) was able to serve a full time mission for the church.
She became ill with sugar diabetes and died at her home in Huntington on 6 Mar 1933. She was buried in the Huntington Cemetery.
