Introduction

Not having any certain record of my ancestry further back than my grandparents, Grandfather William H. Taylor, Waterloo veteran who married Ann Wanmer of Kent, England, who accompanied him in that memorable campaign where he was wounded in the knee and was retired with a moderate pension. They made their home in Preston, England, where my mother Ann Elizabeth Taylor was born April 23, 1823, * and where they became converted to the new religion called Mormonism. My grandfather Benjamin Bowler married Elizabeth Barker making their home in Long Whatton, England, where my father John Bowler was born November 15, 1820, ** who married my mother Ann Elizabeth Taylor making their home in Leicester, England, both being members of the “Mormon” church. After the death of grandfather Taylor my grandmother was married to Joseph Hutchinson of Long Whatton, England, to whom was born one child James. My Aunt Mary Wanmer of Kent, England, was married to Samuel Page of London, England, no children. The above named became prominent characters in this history and as branches the following names may be added. William Burrows, Thomas Lester, Henry Toone, William Hutchinson, Mary Hall, Mary Moore and many others.
