Joseph HOUSE and Nancy (surname unknown)

JOSEPH HOUSE
b. unknown
d. before 1850 in Missouri

NANCY HOUSE
b. ~1805 in North Carolina
d. before 1870 in Missouri

The first record of the Joseph House family in Lincoln County, Missouri was evident in the 1830 U. S. Census. During the 110 years the House's lived in Lincoln County they owned and farmed land. Joseph House purchased 198 acres of a Missouri Land Patent from the Federal Government in 1838.

Based on information researched, it is assumed that Joseph House, moved to Lincoln County, Missouri with his widowed father, Owen; his wife, Nancy (surname unknown); and their son, Thompson. The 1830 census shows in the household there were possibly another son and two daughters.

I found Joseph House and what appears to be the same household makeup living in neighboring Montgomery County in the 1840 U. S. Census. Considering the fact that I was not able to locate Joseph House and his family in Lincoln County, during the 1840 U. S. Census, I assume he was living in Montgomery County at the time. Even though Joseph purchased land on a U. S. Land Patent from the Federal Government in 1838, during the period of 1838 through 1844 Joseph had several mortgages and underwent foreclosures on his property.

During the 1850 and 1860 U. S. Censuses, Nancy House, assumably a widow, lived in the household of Alexander Creech and Elizabeth. It is assumed that Elizabeth was Nancy's daughter.

Any information about the other two children who were in the Joseph House household during the 1830 and 1840 U.S. Censuses has never been located on any record in Lincoln County.

The 1850 U. S. Census states that Nancy House was born in North Carolina, the 1860 U.S. Census states Tennessee. I have found only one other document  (The death record of Thompson House's son, John Marion House)  that provided a clue that the House's could have been from North Carolina.
