Hezekiah Mills migrated to Lincoln County, Missouri sometime after 1845 and before 1847 with his wife, Judith, and their children from Pittsylvania County, Virginia. According to the 1850 U. S. Federal Census in Lincoln County, Missouri, family members in the Hezekiah Mills household were: Hezekiah, age 54, Rolly (census shows Polly), age 12, male; Judith, age 10;James age 7; Lucy, age 5; and David, age 3. According to U. S. Census records, Hezekiah and all of the children were born in Virginia except David who was born in Missouri. This Census shows that there was no adult female in this household, leaving me to believe that Hezekiah's wife, Judith, died sometime after their son, David, was born in 1847.

Pittsylvania County (Virginia) Marriage Bonds, shows that Hezekiah Mills married Judith Jackson on December 12, 1829. Property tax records of 1845 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia show Hezekiah Mills as having one white male living in his household over the age of 16. (It is unclear who this child was.) He did not have any other property to claim for tax purposes.

Hezekiah's neighbor on the 1840 U.S. Census in Pittsylvania County, Virginia was Henry Blanks. His neighbor on the 1850 U.S. Census in Lincoln County, Missouri was Joel Blanks. The 1850 U.S. Census showed that Joel was a land owner and Hezekiah a renter. I believe, that Hezekiah moved to Lincoln County, Missouri with the security of working for Joel, Henry's brother. (relationship of Henry and Joel was identified in their father, Joseph Blank's will.) In the 1860 U. S. Federal Census, Hessa K. Mills (assumably Hezekiah), age 70, was living in the household of William T. Mills, age 24, in Hickory Grove Township in Warren County, Missouri. Also in that household was Ann T., age 20 and David age 12. Ann was William's wife, and assumably David was his younger brother.

William Thomas Mills was not enumerated in his father's household in the 1850 U.S. Census. I was not able to locate him in any other household during the 1850 U. S. Census. However, his death certificate, indicates that he was born in Virginia and his parents were Hezekiah and Judith Mills both born in Virginia.
