In the heart of
Northern California, in the homey rural Valley of San
Joaquin, 85 miles NE of San Francisco and 50 miles SW of Sacramento, SAN
JOAQUIN GENERAL HOSPITAL rises to greet the golden soliel.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program has been in existence since 1932 committed to an education in Primary Care
.Without any competing fellowship
programs the residents receive a very comprehensive hands-on education in the
Ambulatory and Inpatient areas of general internal medicine; (where else would
you have the ability to perform 30 to 60 flexible sigmoidoscopies!). Office
training in the non traditional specialties of gynecology, pediatrics,
ophthalmology, ENT, orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, nursing
home visits and hospice are incorporated to enable the residents to practice the
true art of medicine in any community, however rural or technologically
advanced, with confidence and competence.
With an energetic full time faculty and a diverse enthusiastic group of residents we plough through the culturally rich population entering the enchanting world of tropical medicine-leprosy and schistosomiasis, amebic liver abscesses and malaria, thereby setting the stage for a luxurious and intellectual learning process with the development of an analytical mind and a sharpening of the skills of deduction.
The University of California campuses at San Francisco and Davis participate with the training program in providing didactics, teaching and management rounds in addition to furnishing the residents with several elective rotations.
The program at San Joaquin General Hospital is small, (15 total residents) warm and progressive. Browse through the particulars and contact us for details or just for curiosity.
