Our Invitation To You...
We urge you to join us as we worship and
praise our God
each Lord's Day. A warm welcome
awaits you. We want
you to know that we are people just like
you-- married,
single, families, young and old.
We are faced with the
same problems, sins, loneliness, failures,
sorrows, and
joys that all people are confronted with
in this world. We
too are challenged by all the temptations
in this society.
Sometimes we are obedient, and sometimes
we disobey.
Even our obedience is imperfect.
We are sinners saved by
grace. One difference dominates our lives-
by the grace of
God, we are redeemed and forgiven. As
Christian's, we
belong to Christ who bought us.
We have only one purpose
in coming to you-to tell you of the salvation
that God has
given in Jesus Christ, so you too many
have the peace and
joy that God has given to us. We
are Christians today
because someone, at sometime, told us
the good news . For
that same purpose we come to you.
Our Heritage
The Reformed Church in the United States
(RCUS) traces its
history through the Protestant Reformation
of the sixteenth
century. At that time, the Lord raised
up such men as John
Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli and John Knox to
reform the church according
to the Word of God.
The first congregations of the RCUS, consisting
mostly of German
immigrants, were formed in 1725 by John
Philip Boehm, and were
located just north of Philadelphia. From
then until the early part
of the twentieth century, the old German
Reformed Church grew to be
one of the largest denominations in the
country. We operated several
colleges, seminaries, orphanages and church
papers. Sadly, however,
most of our congregations participated
in the 1934 merger with the Evangelical Synod of North America; the resulting
megachurch merged
later with the Christian Congregational
Churches to form the United
Church of Christ. The few congregations
that wanted to retain
Reformed distinctives and refused to believe
that bigger is better
incorporated in 1940 as the continuing
RCUS.
Our Doctrine
We believe the Bible, consisting of the
sixty-six books of the
Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired,
inerrant and
infallible Word of the living God. As
such it is our final
standard for all our teaching.
By mutual consent we have also adopted
as subordinate
standards the following great creeds of
the Reformation:
the Heidelberg
Catechism
, the Belgic
Confession of Faith
and the The
Canons of Dort . We believe these to be the
most accurate expressions of Biblical
Christianity that the
church has ever produced. Each of our
ministers is required
to subscribe to their teachings without
reservation.
Our Distinctive
Every denomination has its own unique characteristics
that
distinguish it from others. Here are a
few of ours:
Six day creation
The sanctity of human life
Male headship
The catechization of covenant youth
Not using pictures of Christ
