Linda Yungling McCready

After graduation, I enrolled at American River College where I attended at night for seven years, finally receiving an AA. During my first year at ARC I met and married Alan McCready, a biologist from the Department of Fish and Game. He later worked for many years as an economist for the State. We had three children: Karen, born in 1962, Carol, born and died of SIDS in 1964, and Brian, born in 1965. Karen completed a BA in Art and Design at CSUS, and currently works as a program analyst for the Governor's Office of Emergency Services. She has never married. Brian has a degree in math from Portland State University, and an MBA from University of Phoenix. He was married for seven years, and has two daughters, Ketzal (age 7) and Emma (age 4). After divorcing, he returned to Sacramento; the girls live in Medford OR.

After graduating from ARC in 1967, I attended CSUS, completing a BA in Anthropology and English, and two years of graduate school in Anthropology and Education. Although I have a "Life" teaching credential, I have never taught in a regular school.  In 1973 I was hired by the Office of the Secretary of State, and then promoted to the Department of Health Services. After four years there, I promoted again to the Medical Board of California. I worked for MBC for 21 years, most of that time as manager of the Division of Allied Health Professions.

In January 2000, I retired, and now spend most of my time making things. My big hobby is building furniture, but I also read, paint, write, sew, travel, and generally keep busy. In 1988 my biography of my great grandparents was published under the title "Most Gentle Wilderness - Pioneering on the Southern California Coast." I dedicated it to Mrs. Eada Silverthorne, who was far and above any other teacher I have ever known. It was not a big seller. I also wrote a history of the Medical Board of California while I worked there.
