Census to release uninsured data
WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The U.S. Census Bureau is set
to release Tuesday its annual estimate of the number of Americans
without health insurance.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Monday that the
census report is expected to conflict with other estimates done by
the federal government and a handful of states.
While the surveys differ in size and methodology, they all
have one thing in common. They found that more than 30 million
people in the United States have been uninsured for a full year.
The surveys also have found that most of the uninsured work
in low-wage jobs, and cannot afford to purchase health insurance,
the newspaper said.
Tom Miller, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise
Institute, said there are multiple reasons for people lacking health
insurance, and there needs to be a multifaceted solution to the
problem.
"There are multiple solutions that need to be applied,"
Miller said. "The sweeping 'I have a solution' tends to obscure the
parts of the problem."
