New York primary elections to be monitored
WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Tuesday's primary elections in
New York will be monitored to ensure compliance with federal voting
rights laws, the U.S. Justice Department said.
Federal observers and Justice Department personnel will
monitor polling place activities in New York, Kings and Queens
counties, based on the special coverage provisions of the Voting
Rights Act, such as minority language provisions, the department
said Monday in news release.
For the 2008 presidential elections, the Civil Rights
Division will implement a comprehensive Election Day program to
ensure ballot access, the department said.
