Scaffold collapse hurts 16 in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The collapse of a scaffold at a
downtown San Diego construction site left 16 people injured,
according to firefighters.
Witnesses told KGTV-TV in San Diego that the scaffolding
erected outside a building under constriction near Petco Park was
"weaving" and then collapsed to the sidewalk, trapping several
pedestrians.
Fire department spokesman Maurice Luque said three of the
injured were in critical condition.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the injured
included at least two children. It was not known if any of the
victims were construction workers who may have been on the scaffold.
The incident occurred at a three-story structure being built
as single-occupancy affordable housing, KGTV said.
