McCain says he's no one-term president
LAS CRUCES, N.M., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- John McCain, whose age
of 71 has caused some concern among his followers, says he will not
promise to be a one-term president if elected in November.
"I'm not considering it." McCain said in an interview with
Politico following a town hall meeting in Las Cruces, N.M.
In a half-hour discussion with Politico, McCain spoke
instead of the kind of presidency he envisioned, one with closer
relations with the U.S. Congress, a more open dialogue with the
American people and a commitment to tackle some of the nation's
thorniest issues.
He declined to criticize U.S. President George Bush and said
that he wouldn't do anything as president to underscore his
differences with the unpopular incumbent. McCain told Politico,
however, he would aim for a far more transparent and
consensus-oriented approach than Bush.
