RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Carl Edwards crossed the finish line ahead of Scott Wimmer Sunday to capture the Nationwide Emerson Radio 250 auto race at Richmond, Va.

Edwards, driving the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford, grabbed the lead from Clint Bowyer with 28 laps left after Bowyer led for 195 laps.

Bowyer finished third, followed by Denny Hamlin and David Ragan.

Edwards was one of nine Sprint Cup drivers in the race, and one of four in the top five spots at the finish.

Because of the threat of tropical storm Hanna, The Sprint Cup's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 was run earlier, with Jimmie Johnson finishing first.

With seven races left in the Nationwide season, Bowyer leads the standings with 4,088 points. Edwards is second with 3,881 points and, with 3,809 points, Brad Keselowski is third.

The next Nationwide race is the Camping World 200 Sept. 20 at Dover, Del.
