Oswalt, Ethier NL co-players of the week
NEW YORK, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Houston pitcher Roy Oswalt and
Los Angeles outfielder Andre Ethier were named Monday the National
League co-players of the week.
Oswalt posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 earned-run average
and one shutout in leading the league with 17 innings pitched. The
31-year-old right-hander allowed five hits, walked two and struck
out nine. On Saturday at Colorado, Oswalt tossed the 14th complete
game and fifth shutout of his career.
Oswalt held the Rockies to one hit and became the first
pitcher since 1995 to throw a one-hitter at Coors Field. He extended
his scoreless innings streak to 23 1/3, and has not allowed a run
since the second inning of his Aug. 27 start against Cincinnati.
Ethier, 26, led the league with a .650 (13-for-20) batting
average, 1.200 slugging percentage, .741 on-base percentage and 10
runs scored during the past week. Against Arizona Friday, he was
5-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles and a home run.
