MLB: LA Angels 12, N.Y. Yankees 1
ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Brandon Wood had two home
runs and three RBI Monday night and the LA Angels beat the New York
Yankees 12-1 in a game that featured a bench-clearing incident.
Vladimir Guerrero was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three
RBI, and Sean Rodriguez homered for the Angels, who won their second
straight game and reduced their magic number to two for clinching
the AL West. Second-place Texas was idle Monday.
Jon Garland (13-8) went seven innings, allowing one run on
six hits with two walks and four strikeouts to get the win.
Carl Pavano (2-1) took the loss, going 5 1/3 innings and
allowing five runs on six hits and one walk.
Alex Rodriguez drove in the only run for the Yankees, who
lost for the fourth time in five games.
Torii Hunter and Ivan Rodriguez were ejected after engaging
in a shoving match at home plate in the bottom of the sixth.
Rodriguez took a swing at Hunter and both dugouts and bullpens
emptied during the incident, but no other players were disciplined.
