Fiber Optics installed at Softcom Headquarters

We’re excited to let you know that here at Softcom headquarters, we’re in the process of deploying our first commercial offering of “fiber to the suite” technology for our first handful of commercial customers here at our facility at 545 Industrial Drive in Galt.

Fiber optic connections are exceedingly fast compared with traditional copper connections. Fiber optic cables relies on light instead of electricity to transmit data, which offers numerous advantages.  The end result is that fiber-optic cable gives us a way to offer the fastest possible internet connections capable of handling extreme bandwidths. According to a report from the FCC, fiber optic providers consistently offer 117% of advertised speed, even during times of peak demand.

This technology is especially well-suited for commercial and business needs as internet connection requirements can be hundreds of times more than what service delivered over copper is capable of.  Softcom’s dedication to proactively invest in cutting edge technology and services will give its fiber customers in our initial commercial offering access to internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.

Our initial deployment is considered an in-production proof-of-concept test, with lessons learned from this deployment along with further training to allow us to do additional commercial deployments coming over the next year.

“This is another way we are able to provide the fastest, most reliable internet access possible for our customers,” said Brian Meredith, Softcom Chief Technology Officer. “We’ve wanted to offer this for some time, and are happy to finally have the ability and resources to start rolling out this exciting technology to our customers and community.”
