#1 Check your router name and password settings
Obvious names such as “The Smith family network” or weak passwords such as “password123” leave you open to targeted hacking. #2 Shut down wireless routers when traveling
If you’re leaving for vacation, or even just a weekend getaway, turn off your router to shut down your wireless network. (Hint for families: This is also a great trick for times you really want to get the kids offline.)

#3 Make sure all connected devices are updated and have protection
All devices that access the internet from your home should have their own levels of protection as well. All computers and laptops should have antivirus and/or anti-malware security software installed. You can also install protective software on smart phones or laptops.
